Compaq Presario CQ56 SLOW!!!!

My brothers carer has the above laptop. It has Windows 7 HP and 2GB of Ram. On Startup I have noticed that 58 items start up, and it uses between 50 - 100% of the CPU and up to 1GB of the memory :yikes: . I have run msconfig, defragged the HDD, but still the problem remains, what can be done about this?

Right-Click on the Task Bar, click Task Manager and have a look in the processes list, also if it's not appearing there, click Show Processes from all users

So how much CPU is each of those using? And in what order? If AvastUI is using >50% on it's own, then that's a problem. But without knowing how much each uses, it doesn't tell us what's causing the problem. How about sort by CPU then take a screenshot?
