" Download full size image New British Camera Can See Through Clothes Posted on: Monday, 10 March 2008, 00:00 CDT In what some have called a security industry breakthrough, a British company has developed a new camera that can see through clothes at a distance of up to 80 feet, even when people are in motion. The new camera, called the T500 made by ThruVision, uses “passive imaging technology†to detect weapons, drugs or explosives that might be hidden under people's clothes. The T5000 will be officially unveiled at a scientific development exhibition March 12-13 sponsored by Britain's Home Office. ... "Acts of terrorism have shaken the world in recent years and security precautions have been tightened globally," said Clive Beattie, the chief executive of ThruVision, in an interview with Reuters. "The ability to see both metallic and non-metallic items on people out to 25 meters is certainly a key capability that will enhance any comprehensive security system." While the technology may enhance detection, it may also increase concerns about civil liberties, and reinforce fears that Britain may be turning in to a society constantly under watch by hundreds of thousands of closed-circuit television cameras that already monitor people throughout the country every day. ... The title of the thread makes it sounds like someone might be able to look at your bare body, but (thankfully?) the example picture shows otherwise.
If it could see through your cloths to your body... |

Sure I've seen something like that on the net - some kind of camera that can see through certain types of clothing, pictures come out green I think, not that I looked. |

Re: New British Camera Can See Through Clothes
Many infra-red cameras can 'see through' certain clothes. It appears that some celebs have been getting upset by people taking revealing photos of them so that now you have to sign an End User License Agreement before you can get, for example, the Fujifilm Finepix IS-1. See the notice at the bottom of this page:

What you really need to do is have the camera modified to take out the filter that normally sits in front of the sensor to block out all infra-red. Then to take normal photos you add an IR blocking filter to the front of the lens (eg B+W 486) or to take IR photos you add one to block out visible light (eg Hoya R72). Many people will do the conversion for you, eg: http://www.irdigi.com/products.htm |
