Has a new SW file been sent to Hub2 ac users?
Reason i ask is because within my Network Log i am currently seeing:-
SW Download INIT - Via Config file tftp file-******** SW download Successful - Via Config file Thoughts? |
Re: Has a new SW file been sent to Hub2 ac users?
Have your sync speeds changed in the configuration tab?

If your SH2ac software version begins with v2 rather than v1, it likely means you are opted in to the WIFI hotspot sharing thing. I'll most likely be logging in to my Virgin Media portal to opt out of it. |
Re: Has a new SW file been sent to Hub2 ac users?
I had it too, after the usual flurry of T3 errors.
|
Re: Has a new SW file been sent to Hub2 ac users?
I am now running v2.01.11
So i am guessing that was the only change in the firmware - regarding enabling WIFI HOTSPOT? |
Re: Has a new SW file been sent to Hub2 ac users?
I can't find anything about either opting in or out on the VM website, could someone direct me to it?
|
Re: Has a new SW file been sent to Hub2 ac users?
My 2ac as this entry in the log, 'Code File Manufacturer CVS Validation Failure'. So I guess the SW update failed as it still shows as v1.01.11
|
Re: Has a new SW file been sent to Hub2 ac users?
Ah ok I understand now, just seems abit random that VM has not mentioned the roll-out plan and the way to actually opt-out yet!
Although I was aware they was planning to-do this a year ago now, but actually thought it had already gone live, but makes more sense doing it area by area slowly. In principle it does seem like a really good idea, asking as it does not affect a users actual connection. So basically they expect everyone to opt-in... right away without a prompt screen first. |
Re: Has a new SW file been sent to Hub2 ac users?
I wonder how they will react when I power down my modem at night or when I go out?
|
Re: Has a new SW file been sent to Hub2 ac users?
I'm wondering how they expect this to work .
I have trouble connecting my iPad wirelessly if I'm in bed, the hub is downstairs and one room over. Oh and what's to stop someone just parking out on the street ( or in my back garden in my case) and start downloading lots of dodgy material ?? Or have I just got the wrong end of the stick ( as usual lol ) |

Re: Has a new SW file been sent to Hub2 ac users?
I am on SH3, yet my config file has changed too. The downstream max traffic rate is now at 345000000. I noticed this after I got some speed test results consistently higher than usual. I usually max out at 317Mb. I am now consistently getting 331Mb. I'm pretty sure the old config was something like 325000000. Software version = 9.1.116V
Any explanation anyone? https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2017/02/24.png https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2017/02/25.png https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2017/02/26.png |

Got a new config file for Vivid 100 as well. Was 110100000, now 115100000.

So your measured speed increase is around 23Mb. Can that be accounted for with your reported config max traffic rate alone?
|
Re: Has a new SW file been sent to Hub2 ac users?
Looks like there's been a new non-gamer 200Mbps config as well, now at 230000000 which I believe only the gamer config was at previously.
Looking at previous speedtests from last week, I've gone from around 208/210 to 220/222 Although I stand to be corrected |

Re: Has a new SW file been sent to Hub2 ac users?
I don't think they're stress testing anything, I am 90% sure they're increasing the overhead so the ASA doesn't bitch slap them. For virgin to advertise 300Mbit, 10% of customers need to actually get that speed - so they over-provision to make sure it happens.
It's why upload speeds are barely overprovisioned at all, because they're not headline speeds. |

That's an odd little number, isn't it. Would have just expected 22000000.
Still, any increase is good! |
Re: Has a new SW file been sent to Hub2 ac users?
Excellent. It's not much but at least they're tweaking upload speeds as well, hopefully the 200 tier will see an upload boost too.

The list you linked to includes:- Basildon, Southend, Gillingham, Cambridge, the Cotswolds, Epping, Loughton, Glenrothes, South Herts and Watford, and West Sussex. That does appear to be confirmation that the trials have gone well enough to roll out to at least certain areas. Some areas may be easier to do this in than others. |
Re: Has a new SW file been sent to Hub2 ac users?
I'm not in a trial area, and my speed has improved. My SH3 is actually in modem mode anyway.
|
Re: Has a new SW file been sent to Hub2 ac users?
Wifi trial doesn't have anything to do with the speed boosts. The public wifi is on a seperate connection.
|

The WiFi trial and rollout is not linked to speed upgrades. Similarly speed upgrades are not necessarily linked to network upgrades. |
Re: Has a new SW file been sent to Hub2 ac users?
The WiFi channel does not operate when you are in modem mode and currently it won't allow you to use other WiFi hotspots as you aren't sharing yours

Re: Has a new SW file been sent to Hub2 ac users?
The website doesn't really mention modem mode, it only says opting out is done via my VM.
If they do start identifying modem mode users and blocking them without them having opted out then it may cause a bit of a kick-off. VM had the firmware written to allow this service, they could have easily enough specified that it should also work with the device set to modem mode too. The device is certainly capable of doing it. |
Re: Has a new SW file been sent to Hub2 ac users?
Both being in modem mode or disabling 2.4GHz wireless in router mode will opt you out of the VM WiFi service.

Re: Has a new SW file been sent to Hub2 ac users?
I'm pretty sure it's a bug. I'm stuck in some weird limbo where I can't disable modem mode but it also has all of the router mode settings available.
But either way, VM are having firmware made that allows them to have an entirely separate network running. It also apparently reports back to VM if your device is in modem mode so they know you are opted-out. Modem mode is just a bunch of configuration changes that disable DHCP, wireless and the other ports (though not early on :D). It's not some hard kill switch that disables the hardware, just a bit being flipped to 0 |
Re: Has a new SW file been sent to Hub2 ac users?
New software for SH2ac downloaded overnight.
I am now on v2.01.12 as of 30.08.17. The last time i had v2 (January) it was v2.01.11. This didn't last very long as Virgin rolled back to an earlier v1.01.14 and that was running until last night. Does this mean the SH2ac Wifi Hotspot rollout is underway again? |

It seems that there has been widespread change to the mini-slot size. My Hub 3, SH2ac & SH2 all have a mini-slot size of 2 instead of the 4. So what's that about? It could explain the packet fragmentation that Will has mentioned. Btw, for the Hub 3 you can extract the mini-slot size with the command (in this case modem mode): http://192.168.100.1/walk?oids=1.3.6....127.1.1.2.1.5 |

Re: Has a new SW file been sent to Hub2 ac users?
I have no idea why I am still on 'old' FW. When I first read this thread, I checked my version and did a complete power cycle of the SH. The original FW version remains. I rebooted again just a couple of days ago and I am still on 1.01.14.
For now, I am not touching it again. Yes, I am in MODEM mode, but don't want to chance problems now I know that some people are having issues. |
