Van driven into crowd in France

Quote:

A van has been driven at shoppers at a French Christmas market in the city of Nantes and the driver is reported to have stabbed himself, officials say.

Ten people are reported to have been injured, five seriously.

The exact circumstances remain unclear, but the incident comes only a day after pedestrians were run down in Dijon.

The driver of that vehicle screamed "God is great" in Arabic. On Saturday, police shot dead a man using the same phrase in Tours after he attacked them.

It'll be interesting to see what the motivation for this latest attack was.

Probably mental health problems, just like the guy who thought he heard God's voice....

Martin Bell said God told him to kill 23-year-old Gemma Simpson when she was at his flat in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, 14 years ago in May 2000.

Bell pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility when he appeared at Leeds crown court on Monday.

The guy in Dijon has mentally ill too. This is weird though. There was an attack in Tours. This thing in Scotland which also seems unrelated to any of what is happening in France.

Could be. They're saying that the guy who shot dead two US cops yesterday had mental health issues too, so not just a reaction to recent 'racist' killings by the police there. Time will probably tell...

Just heard a report on LBC radio to the effect that wintesses are saying the driver of this van was also shouting Allahu Akbar before stabbing himself. A mentally ill nutter or just a plain 'religious' nutter I wonder?

No that was his Uncle, but that connection will probably be thrust forward more than any Islamic angle.

God, or Allah, forbid.

The religion of peace does seem to attract more than their fair share of the seriously mentally ill.

France is to step up police and military patrols in areas frequented by the public following recent attacks, Prime Minister Manuel Valls has said.

He said up to 300 soldiers would be deployed around the country to boost security over the Christmas period.

Clearly they're worried.

I don't know about worried, I'd say it's more a show of strength.

Yeah, worried enough to need a show of strength... :)

Or simply a response - I still don't consider them all that worried as yet.

Well there are big worries and little worries as we all know. I don't suppose this is the biggest of France's concerns right now.
