Site survey - how to schedule a visit?

I have read here that others getting VM installed (where there is cable in the street but not on the property) have had a visit from a technician to do a site survey and discuss cable routing; then an install on a later date.

I have tried to book this initial appointment through a friendly VM shop but they can't work out how to get any control over the site survey visit. (It's a complex property with special cable routing requirements and I need to be on site, which means I need them to set up an appointment to suit my diary.)

It seems the store just pops the order into a system and a technician magically shows up without an appointment. Apparently often the technician just takes a look at the property from the outside, with no customer present, and drives away knowing what to do.

Am I missing some key magical phrase to use, or call centre number to call, which would get some more control over this please?

Thanks for the advice.

The survey is normally just to see if there's a problem with the cable upto the property hence they don't even bother knocking.. The install techs themselves on the date of install are the ones who decide where the cable can go and it's those who you should discuss any options with.

Ah, that's helpful.

I've got a bunch of internal cabling (rack to cinema etc) which depends on VM agreeing a particular ingress point on the outside of the house. I guess then, my best option is to schedule a full install (even though we don't need it for a month or two while the rest of the building works are under way) so then I will know that the cable will actually go in to where we want it.

Now that's an interesting suggestion. However, doesn't that result in a sales person showing up, who can describe packages -- are they trained to look at cable routes too?

I suppose it depends on how experienced they are.
