Virgin Media to auction off the best slots on its TV guide

Telegraph.co.uk did report on May 20th that:

Quote:

The cable operator Virgin Media is plotting a shake-up of the pay-TV industry by auctioning off rights to some of the best slots in its channel menu to the highest bidder.

The move, backed by its parent company, the pan-European giant Liberty Global, is an attempt to open up a new source of income. Operators in the US cable industry where the company's founder John Malone was a pioneer have long cashed in their on control of channel menus.

Has it started???

Virgin Media has confirmed that TiVo or V6 customers will no longer be able to access BBC Three via the TV Guide from August 14th.

What next for Virgin Channel 106?

As BBC 3 is only available via the internet now I'm not surprised it is not accessable via the TV guide.

Watch out ITV - you are probably next if you don't play nicely.

Media Boy HQ thinks this may happen:

-Local TV moves to Virgin UK Channel 106 (Is on Channel 159 right now).
-FOX HD moves to Virgin UK Channel 159 (Is on Channel 199 right now).
-Dave Ja Vu moves to Virgin Channel 191 (Is on Channel 211 right now).
-W HD moves to Virgin Channel 194 (Is on Channel 191 right now).
-Dave HD moves to Virgin Channel 199 (Is on Channel 194 right now).

Well, that's very helpful.

Why not just:

BBC1 HD to 106 from 108 (as per Freesat)
BBC2 HD to 107 from 162, with BBC4 SD moving to 108.

That's too simple and logical.

It seems like Sky is planning a reshuffle.

Another one ? It's a while since they did a full reshuffle of the EPG.

I'm all in favour of the proposals especially if it helps people find channels easier.

Cue Old Boy telling us how the EPG is dead and everything should be On Demand.:D

Perhaps you are right MM as when our family was up with our wider family the Sky EPG was quite confusing especially for numbskulls like me.

Now, now, muppetman, you really must stop spreading these unsubstantiated rumours!
