Obviously it will be a while as to the reason why it came off the track but l know there had been concerns from local politicians.

It was reported to be traveling at 80 mph on a track that has a 30 mph limit.

Sad the the Donald's first thought is how he can use this in a tweet ( what else?), to his political advantage...
http://www.cnn.com/2017/12/18/politi...ain/index.html

Maybe he should be using the money being used on a pointless non-existent wall to improve infrastructure...

If that is the case then sadly that is not the first time it has happened.

No it is not sad. There is nothing wrong with that tweet.

The wall is not pointless either. He is entitled to protect the US borders especially from criminal cartels, from the crime ridden Mexico and he was elected on that main mandate.

"The train accident that just occurred in DuPont, WA shows more than ever why our soon to be submitted infrastructure plan must be approved quickly," tweeted Trump. "Seven trillion dollars spent in the Middle East while our roads, bridges, tunnels, railways (and more) crumble! Not for long!"

As authorities were still trying to determine the causes — and the exact death toll — of Monday’s Amtrak derailment in Washington state, President Donald Trump immediately waded into a policy debate, teasing a “soon to be submitted infrastructure plan” for “roads, bridges, tunnels, railways (and more).”

“It is all the more reason why we must immediately start fixing the infrastructure of the United States,” Trump said in subsequent remarks on Monday.

But there’s one problem — the Trump Administration already has submitted an infrastructure plan as part of its 2018 budget proposal — and it proposes deep cuts to the nation’s rail systems.

Trump often talked about a $1 trillion infrastructure plan when he was a candidate, and he included a $1 trillion private/public infrastructure investment in the 2018 budget his administration proposed to Congress in May. The plan called for $200 billion in spending in infrastructure, but it also also limited money to build new or expand existing lines and slashed subsidies for rural lines.

Overall, the budget request would slash railroad funding from the President Barack Obama era by almost 13%, according to The Washington Post.

Where's the figures for the Private investment? It is a Public/Private investment scheme isn't it?

Yes it is and there is still nothing wrong with that tweet.

A US passenger train that derailed, killing three people, was travelling at 80mph (130km/h) on a curve with a speed limit of 30mph, data from the train's rear engine indicates.
That'll do it.....

No, Amtrak is state-owned. And yes, he is correct about Trump's cuts.
But it looks like the cause may have been speed not infrastructure... but a high speed service limited to 36mph in places doesn't sound fast.

The technology is there to limits speeds on certain dangerous points of a railway network.

Amtrak President Richard Anderson told reporters in a conference call that Positive Train Control – the technology that can slow or stop a speeding train – wasn’t in use on the stretch of track where the derailment unfolded.
