Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/03/41.png
Impressive - above speed is via Super Hub wireless (albeit about 30cm away from my laptop). Logged into My Virgin Media yesterday and there was an option to 'Upgrade Me' to my new speed from 20Mb to 60Mb. Filled in the form and got an email today asking me to ring in and confirm some missing info, 5 mins on the phone and told to switch SH off for an hour and hey presto 60Mb it is when switched back on. Seems like the upgrades have begun early as according to the main site, my area wasn't due until July! Virgin Media - I salute you!:nworthy: |

Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
Looks like they're rushing upgrades through in areas that aren't ready... 2.6mb upload on >60mb download?
|
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
he should be hitting at least 3, may be its a wireless issue. Superblade can you test via wired and post your result.
as for 6Mb up, VM.... Quote:

Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
Interim upgrade, full upgrade including the upstream will follow once the area is enabled for upstream bonding.
I've a similar interim upgrade. Primary Downstream Service Flow Downstream(0) SFID 5883 Max Traffic Rate 111000000 bps Primary Upstream Service Flow Upstream(0) SFID 5882 Max Traffic Rate 5120000 bps |
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
Bit silly since they've barely finished the 10:1 upstream uplift in most areas yet and are already having to revert to lower upstream ratios.
Clearly their commitment to 10:1 ratios only applies as long as it's not at the cost of marketing excessive download speeds in the interim. |

I logged into My Virgin Media and just above the box with your bill info was a green box saying click for more info about speed upgrades. Clicked on that and then another box popped up stating my upgrade was 20 to 60 and advising me to click on the 'Upgrade Me' button. It may only be available as and when your upgrade is ready to be rolled out. Hope that helps, Superblade7 |

Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/03/39.png
Just done a few tests wired and there is little difference to be honest - the above is the highest upload speed I managed (varied from 2.5 to the above) so it would seem that it is like Ignition mentioned earlier and an interim upgrade to the download speeds. The upload has gone up a little though as the highest I ever achieved on 20Mb was around 2Mb. So I'll say well done to VM on this occasion, they have delivered what they promised earlier than expected and made the £3.50 price increase seem a little more palatable now (just hope they throw in some more HD on the TV side too and make Superblade a happy boy!!!). |

Had the same green box as you but no option to upgrade it yet. didn't think so either as 100Mb is not available in my area yet either.

Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
this might not mean much here skie but ive had glitches using Chrome in the past so i switched to IE.
---------- Post added at 23:58 ---------- Previous post was at 23:53 ---------- btw my areas not ready yet. check my thinkbroadband youd think id get 50 or 100 seeing as its semi ready but no! when i called to possibly upgrade it got declined saying my area isnt yet ready to carry the load. once upgrades are done ill be able to but heres the jaw dropping line i got which amazed me 'we've made mistakes upgrading people in the past but we've learnt from it and only advise higher speeds after the upgrade to be completly safe' amazing stuff got to praise the women/women and then man for saying pretty much the same thing |
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
I tried it in Firefox and Chrome. I guess the web monkeys at VM just ran out of bananas.
|
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
lol try IE
|
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
Sweet! Just clicked on the green box and ordered my upgrade (the doublespeed checker says April-July for my postcode LE3 2xx).
I'm on 20Mb without a superhub so a superhub is being delivered next Weds for a self install. yay! |
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
Logged onto My Virgin Media this morning, saw the green box for the broadband upgrade. Was surprised to see I could proceed to actually order the upgrade considering my area (Nottingham) is not due to be upgraded until October this year at the earliest.
Decided to proceed with the order submission to see what happens! Currently on 20MB with SH/DOCSIS3 already installed; due an upgrade to 60MB. Order stated 60MB so can only be fulfilled as part of the speed doubling exercise as doesn’t exist today. Suspect this may be a very long order lead-time for me or I could get the download now and upload later? |

I'm presuming the change is done at VM by sending a config? Only asking as there's VM vans up and down around here with men in cabs.
I have 8 down channels and 4 up channels. :D * but some are unlocked. * I've no idea what that means. |
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
can you post the channel stats please?

Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
Have nice green box and an upgrade me button but it takes me through to an engineer installation earliest of which is over a month away. looks like a call tonight to see if i can get a self installation package instead.

Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
I had the upgrade button but because I already had a SH in place with 20MB, it just proceeded with my order with no booking or delivery requirement. Now have an order confirmation email, so looks like it is just a case of where you start from dictates what you see after selecting the order button.

Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
Yup its 20MB customers, i just logged into my brothers virgin account and he has the upgrade available.
Funny how you paid £30 to go from 20mb to 30mb but those who didn't pay up (20mb) get serviced first. |
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
I have the green box but area to be upgraded yet.
|
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
anyone know how long it takes after completing your order? They already have a superhub so its just about getting a new config file.
|
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
Glad I saw this thread. I've just checked and in NG11 I have the upgrade option, going from 20 to 60. Shub arriving next week.
|
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
Had to resize it because for some reason its incredibly wide. Must be VM's new superpopup.
Same on IE, Firefox and Chrome. |
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
So why are they doing 20Mb customers first? even in areas where the checker states July onwards?
|
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
But I've seen posts today from BB users with 30Mb and 100MB talking of their upgrades going ahead, so not just 20MB users?
What is the surprise for me is that they are allowing upgrades in certain areas much earlier than previously announced. My theory is that they are permitting download upgrades if the region supports it now (i.e. 100MB enabled now), but will hold back on the upload upgrade until the full network upgrade is complete. That is fine with me. |
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
I'm keeping a close eye on mine every other day. I'm in St Albans (HEML Exchange) and we're due to go from 50 to 100 any time now (March-April). I know the capacity exists as this area is greatly underloaded and always has been :)
|
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
by the way I have just logged into the my virginmedia page and I dont see any upgrade button to click on, where is it?
|
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
for me there was a popup, then a green banner at the top of the page
you can see the pop up box and the green banner in the background from this post: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/35398596-post39.html |

Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
My area according to VMs checker will have it by july and I am also on one of the new configs as well.
|
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
yeah but your still running on 4 ds channels arent you, which suggests your area hasnt had the 100mb upgrades never mind the speed doubling ones

My area must be full of tightwads on lower tiers for them not to bother with bonding the channels, seems to be more upload congestion in Middlesbrough atm. |
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple

There are so many 100meg areas with 4 channels its enough to assume extra DS channels are not standard 100meg upgrades, and more likely advanced work for the speed doubling. The green bar from what I have seen posted should still come up even if the area isnt due yet as some people says its there but doesnt let them upgrade. ---------- Post added at 12:24 ---------- Previous post was at 12:22 ---------- Quote:

Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
I had the box when I logged in and it let me order, but the only option was to book an engineer. I need a superhub but I thought they would just post one out and I could do the rest myself.
Do they send them out anyway and book an engineer incase or will they contact me to give me the choice? Unfortunately the only suitable dates on the system were late April and May and I wouldn't mind it a bit sooner if I can. |
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
I had the choice of a self install or a paid for engineer visit. Naturally I chose self install!
I've had the confirmation email and it's listed in the 'track orders' screen although no HDNL tracking number yet. |
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
Anyone willing to PM me the link to the upgrade form? I just get an error message when clicking the link in the banner (a 404 style error, not a message saying my area isnt ready). Thankies :o

Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
I am currently on 20M service (with a small blue ntl: modem) in the Biggleswade area and experiencing intermittent service loss and slow speeds particularly on Saturday evenings. I've checked my modems functionality against the signal level sticky in this forum and all appears within specification.
On sigining in to My Virgin Media today I saw the green banner and followed the more info link which gave me information that my connection will be upgraded from 20M to 60M with the need for a new (free) modem - would that be a Superhub? There was an Upgrade Me link presented. I am currently on a discounted 20M service (originally £37/mo reduced by £20/mo on a 3 for £58/mo offer some time ago). Will adopting this upgrade (1) improve my internet operation and (2) affect my monthly charge i.e. will I lose my £20/mo discount through it being seen as a contract change? TIA, Neil Darlow |
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
1, speeds; probably. the connection will be stable.
2, no. its a free upgrade. |
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
you will be getting a shub and moving on to docsis 3 so hopefully it will be a lot better for you. Although you think you are receiving a a discount atm you have got to bear in mind that 50mbit (soon to be 100mbit) is £25 a month so if they ever try to fob you off and tell you that your price has got to go back up and you have been in receipt of a special discount you can tell them to shove it where the son don't shine.

Will have to ring and re-arrange anyway now so I'll ask about self install. |
Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
Just given them a call and just as well really.
Not only had the system booked the dates wrong, it had decided it was a chargeable install. Got it re-arranged for April 5th when I was off anyway (but was not able to choose it from the website). Apparently I can't have a self install because there have been some issues with signal strength in my area and might require some tweaks (I've previously had problems with having too high a signal as I'm the first house on the street loop). The lady on the phone said she had personally seen a lot of problems with install dates being booked wrongly and made chargable for the free 60mb upgrade so I strongly advice anyone who's booked something through the website to give them a call on 150 to check the details. |

Re: Speed Tripled - Nice & Simple
I saw the green box and it said all I had to do was order a Superhub and I was away
Filled in a few boxes and opted for free self install - due to be delivered 10th April I'm in Derby area and that is not supposed to be doubled til July I'm on 20mb/s service - let's see if it all goes to plan - just had confirmation email of my order which states We're on the case and a member of our team will get back to you as quickly as possible |

I am on a retention deal, but the new contract was still showing the retention deal price so there was no increase. In the end though, I ended up phoning up and saying I didn't want to sign a new 12 month contract and that was no problem - I just carried on as I am on my existing contract. |
