TV Anywhere "on now" channels

There may be a well-known reason for this but I've never bothered trying to use it before - why is it when I go on Virgin TV Anywhere and select 'On Now' not all the channels are available to watch, with some only offering to 'record now'?

Just the usual "rights" issue. Apparently you have separate "rights" for any activity you want to do. If you have two Tivos you can only stream some of your recordings from one TiVo to the other.

Re: TV Anywhere "on now" channels

Does that mean in theory if I stopped watching through my TV then I could watch it all through my computer?

Yes, you would need to subscribe for TV but any programme you watch at the moment doesn't come from the set top box but through VM's normal network.

Ok out of interest I just disconnected my tv from the TiVo and the same limited channels are open to me.

For a lot of the channels you cannot stream through TV Anywhere, there is are alternative streaming service available on to you via PC already - maybe not worth VM negotiating for additional streaming rights on TV Anywhere if you can already get the Chanel streamed through another route?

Re: TV Anywhere "on now" channels

True, but not an ideal situation. it would be much nicer to be able just to goto one place.

Re: TV Anywhere "on now" channels

Could simply link to the appropriate player - but VM will not want to do that as it drives people away from their site and will no doubt lead to more support issues and contractual shenanigans

It's a shame - it isn't something I'm all that bothered by but just thought it was a bit odd to offer a service only to offer.....some of it. Oh wait, this is VM...

I don't get why this is so foreign to you and Sky Go has even less channels.

Russ 19-07-2013 12:55

Re: TV Anywhere "on now" channels

Maybe because I've never used Sky Go either....

Re: TV Anywhere "on now" channels

Nor have I.

Both Sky Go and TV Anywhere are basically entirely different platforms to cable/sat. The broadcasters have to sort streaming rights out with the content providers, then Sky & Virgin have to negotiate streaming rights with said broadcasters.

So one deal for it to be on your TiVo and another for your iPad basically, hence why both services have far less channels to stream than regularly watch.

Well it's something I've never needed to use or look in to.

I've just checked every channel On Now on the PC and they all have 'play' available, ie can be streamed: http://anywhere.virginmedia.com/live/channels/

Yes but that's not the full list of channels I have on my package.

It's a crock..but then it is VM.
Waste of time and why advertise all the channels if it only provides the basics?

Re: TV Anywhere "on now" channels

Where does it advertise all the channels?

If you go to the link you will see all the channels VM are suggesting are available. However when you try a few there's an issue or there is not. I'm suggesting that if a channel is not yet available it shouldn't be on the page because it just causes frustration.. But hey what do I know..

Every channel on that page can be streamed.

Unbelievably there is still no android app, I cannot believe it takes this long to produce an app.

I can. iPhones and iPads were the market leader for so long.It took Weight Watchers 2 years to produce their Android app after the iPhone had it..
