UK Poorest families face tightest squeeze on incomes analysis shows

http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/20...squeeze-income

Dont think we needed study to tell us something so obvious.

Stats here make eyes water.:(

Quote:

According to the ONS figures, food is 4.6% more expensive than a year ago, alcohol and tobacco 8% pricier, and housing and utilities up 6.2%. Only recreation and culture is cheaper than a year ago, with a small 0.6% decrease.
What would love to know what the figures represent as population. Ok saying bottom 10% how many households does it mean.

As we seen stats can lie effectively saying 90% population can keep country ticking but we seen it not able to sustain the levels consumer spending. Like we see as spending volume bottom 10% likely spends 100% its income weekly. As higher up food chain you gou the 100% dwindles till possible at the top spends 1-15% weekly income.

Which means you need to get in peoples hands who will spend it to turn economies. With food increase, utilities housing makes issue worse when you got pay squeeze.

The UK's poorest families are facing the tightest income squeeze of any group due to higher rates of inflation and lower wage boosts, according to new analysis of official figures conducted by the Trades Union Conference (TUC).
The bottom 10% of the country by income are facing effective inflation rates of 4.1% versus just 3.3% for the richest, while official Office for National Statistics (ONS) statistics from 2011 show the wages of the bottom 10% of earners rose just 0.7% compared with increases of 1.6% for the richest.
Taken together, the two measures suggest real wages for low-income families in Britain are falling twice as fast as those of their richer counterparts. In real terms, the bottom 10% of wage earners are 3.4% poorer than they were a year before versus a 1.7% drop for the top 10% year-on-year.

That phrase is bitting Dave's backside over and over, I don't know why politicians come out with these catchy lines no more boom and bust and tough on crime tough on the causes of crime dogged Gordon and Tony and Dave's is the best of the lot.

Many of us are really struggling right now our money is not keeping up with inflated prices and many of us are going without. Now tightening your belt when times are tough is fair enough but we have a whole section of society that is not just getting left behind in the short term but in the longterm. Social consequences of this could be massive and end up costing the country more then it saves. Many youngsters already have dim views on their future and their chances of being able to make a way in the world and that is translating into anti social behaviour and worse.

If people do not feel they are part of society they do not feel bound by the rules of that society and we are getting there more and more with a larger amount of the people. It isn't as simple as blaming it all on parents either we can only do so much and a lot that contributes to the way kids go is beyond our control. Kids can be taught right and wrong by their parents but if all they see is a prolonged period of unemployment and hardship they will start to question why they should play by the rules. This is not an excuse for people going off the rails or a complete reason for the breakdown in certain communities but we have got to start providing the sense that there is a chance for a good future for all within the rules if they work hard to get it if we want those growing up now to play by those rules.

I grew up on the old saying "a fair days pay for a fair days work" and i didn't think that was much to expect or ask for but for many now even that simple thing is no longer available to them and they are turning to other means to have money in their pocket.
