Connecting PS3 to the internet..

I am a total amateur when it comes to connecting things up and stuff - I even had trouble connecting my two computers together - but I am thinking of buying a PS3. I know some of these questions might be really basic knowledge to some of you, so could you please enlighten me if possible..

I currently have 8MB Tiscali Broadband (not wireless) and I have it running through two computers. (the main computer with the modem, connected using an 'ethernet' cable I think it is to my computer). I've read around and I heard you can connect your PS3 simply through an ethernet cable, but you won't be able to use the computer at the same time.

Is there any way I could use all 3 at the same time through the same internet connection? ie. two computers and the PS3? If so, how please and also would it be possible on my current internet connection without having to switch to anything different? I've heard of a router but I couldn't work out if I could actually use it with my current internet connection and all.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Connecting PS3 to the internet..

The easiest option would be to get a router. Its then a lot easier to share the connection between the 2 pcs and a PS3.

And it is possible for me to use my current internet connection and connect it up through a router then?

Thanks again

Hi There,

Yes of course, you buy for example a four port router, which means you have space for four devices.

So you could connection
PC 1 to port 1
PC 2 to port 2
PC 3 to port 3

All using ethernet. You would need a router and a modem built into one.

Hope this helps.

Hi Dean :tu:
I have a pc and a laptop and my ps3 connected all the same time i'm on 20meg bb but your connection will deffo be fine for online gaming with the ps3 or downloading from the PS3 Store without any huge lag :)
You'll need a router as Darth and Webcrawler said and its best to connect all wired rather than wireless (using an ethernet cable) i'm currently using a Belkin router for mine but there's plenty you can buy just make sure you get one with enough ports for your needs (4 port!) :)
You can also share your music, pictures and video from your other computers to your ps3 which is cool, info how here if you'd like to :tu:
It's all very easy to setup whether your an amateur or not :D if you have any trouble with anything feel free to post again whats up or send me a PM and i'll be happy to help you get sorted :tu:
Have fun with your ps3! it's a great time to get one with all of the best games now on the horizon :hyper: GTA4 for example!!
