Logging into to TiVo over Ethernet?

1 Attachment(s)
So with the 15.2 update, it looks like the TiVo box is alive on the 443 (https) port, and using my browser to attach to the TiVo over the local LAN I get a login prompt.

Anyone know what the default username / password is, and what lies behind this login?

Pete

Re: Logging into to TiVo over Ethernet?

The login is "tivo" and password is your Tivo's unique MAK which you can find in the settings menu.

Please post what you find behind the login. Thanks.

Re: Logging into to TiVo over Ethernet?

It lists all the content recorded on your Tivo, with a "Links" column which appears to be where you can download a copy of the recording to view on other devices. On mine though all shows are marked as "Protected" so you can't access anything so it looks like this feature has been disabled.

At the bottom of the page is this disclaimer:

"This feature is not supported. The TiVo license agreement allows you to transfer content to up to ten devices within your household, but not outside your household. Unauthorized transfers or distribution of copyrighted works outside of your home may constitute a copyright infringement. TiVo reserves the right to terminate the TiVo service accounts of users who transfer or distribute content in violation of this Agreement."

Re: Logging into to TiVo over Ethernet?

Obviously my box is dead right now, so can someone confirm you can see the file size and .tivo extension on the recorded content?

Buzzman 26-11-2011 15:03

Re: Logging into to TiVo over Ethernet?

Thank you. Got a pair of home plugs arriving next week. Can't wait to have a play about.

Re: Logging into to TiVo over Ethernet?

You can see the recorded date, length of recording and file size but not the file extension as all files are marked as "protected". You can also browse the folders for collections, suggestions etc.

On mine the logos for the channel recorded from don't load so you just get a red cross with the channel name instead.

Re: Logging into to TiVo over Ethernet?

Thanks.

Yup - that worked. A little more investigation and it looks like it's the same web interface that TiVo has had in the US since Series 2, but with all the shows currently 'Protected' rather than letting you download them. I would guess that's something to do with the ongoing rights management issue that prevents multi-room streaming from working.

You can also get an XML view of the list by going to https://x.x.x.x/TiVoConnect?Command=...ng&Recurse=Yes - replacing the x.x.x.x with your TiVo IP address. As a coder, that could be an interesting feed to use once (and if) VM allow shows to be downloaded directly from the box.

Good info so far... will add it to the "what to expect" thread at some point.

Re: Logging into to TiVo over Ethernet?

It doesn't work on mine. It won't accept the mac address as a password.

How are you entering it? With the colons? Is it case sensitive? I have tried all combinations I can think of and it rejects it.

MAK = Media Access Key, not MAC address. ;)

They don't seem to have uploaded the images to the TiVo server, or maybe they just didn't realise it was there.

Here's what it should look like, with the images:

Thanks. I was just reading another thread and realised that. I thought it was just someone spelling MAC in an odd way :)

I tried changing QueryContainer in the URL to something else (EditContainer) and I got this error.

< h2>Bad Request< /h2>
Calypso request parse error

What is Calypso?

Is there any hope in hell of TiVo recordings expanding to PC & mobile? I really don't want to be buying recording hardware now then VM flick the switch on this.

Re: Logging into to TiVo over Ethernet?

No, everything is protected and can't be copied or streamed. Maybe later.

Connect TiVo to a LAN?

Good evening all.

I've seen many minor mentions here & there about connecting a TiVo to a LAN, but no explanation.

Could someone explain (or point me in the right direction) to what the advantage, if any, in doing this would be.

And, there is always an and, how to go about it all.

Cheers :dunce:

There is an ethernet port on the back of the TIVO, which allows you to connect it to your router. TIVO will then be connected to your Local Area Network, allowing you to connect to it via the various Android/IPhone remote control applications (there's also a Windows one linked a few posts up). Also if you have two TIVOs and can get them both connected to the LAN then they can see each other, and theoretically play each others recordings (though this is being restricted by broadcaster rights at present, hopefully this will be working soon).

If your TIVO is not close to your router then you can use powerline adapters to send the network data over your power cables rather than having to drag network cables all round the house.

I've just been playing with this one and it works well. One of the big pluses is that it allows you to use the laptop keyboard to type into the various search boxes. The TV guide bit is just a link to the TV Guide on the VM website I believe, but useful nonetheless.

@Virgin Territory - I take it you're the coder of this app? Fantastic work. If you're looking for anyone to beta test the OSX version, I'd be happy to help.

I'm hoping that when VM sort the rights management out, I'll be able to view my recordings on devices other than another TiVO...

Well, someone has explained it far better than I ever could here:

No it does not. As always I recommend a Slingbox.

They are quite good are they? Strange about the network capabalities of TIVO, not sure what advantage there is of seeing folders and playlists when you're restricted from viewing the actual content?

Multi-room streaming is a feature that should hopefully be enabled in the near future. I doubt this would include streaming to a PC though

Re: Logging into to TiVo over Ethernet?

Oh well, thanks for the replies. I've been tinkering with the thought of getting a TiVO box since my HD+ box keeps stalling and freezing, plus its very sluggish so I decided to order the 500GB one. Glad I did in the end, because the lady I spoke to advised the free installation offer ends today and tomorrow it will go back to full pricing i.e. £99.99 I didn't know about this, so glad I made that call!

ps she also said that the £5 rental on the V HD+ box will drop to £3 for TiVo so I actually save myself £2 on my monthly bill.
