Contract renewal
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, apologies if not...
I've had an email from VM offering to renew my contract at the current price + RPI (4.9% I believe) + 3.9%. I'm wondering if I should jump at this or if I'm paying too much? I have a VM and O2 Volt package with the following: O2, unlimited minutes, texts, data, £29.32/month (I think that's very expensive, but it balances out with the VM package discount.) Virgin Maxit TV, 2 V6 boxes, Netflix standard, Sky Sports and Movies HD, Gig 1 broadband + pod, landline and anytime UK calling, £66/month (If nothing was done, supposedly this would increase to £136/month in May when a couple of discounts expire.) Thanks in advance for any opinions. Derek |
Re: Contract renewal
You should downgrade your O2 to the £17 ish option for starters . You might have to ring them though. I've got the same for £64 since Nov 22 so if I was offered about the same I'd take it considering what you get for it.

Re: Contract renewal
Thanks, that's useful. I'll ponder a little more but likely go for it, and I'll check O2 for a downgrade.

Re: Contract renewal
Hmmm...
I clicked through on the email link and was given a listing of what the new contract included, which differs in several key areas of the TV that concerned me. Broadband and landline were fine. Mega TV instead of Maxit TV, probably fine? TV360 instead of V6 TiVo, we don't want to change. No mention of 2nd V6. No mention of included standard Netflix. These differences are really dealbreakers, but the original email was clear, Same package, Same speeds, Less hassle. So although I hadn't clicked the final <accept> button, I then got an acceptance email, confirming the new stuff. I phoned VM the day after, but spoke with a lady, possibly in India. Very pleasant, but useless. I think I'll try phoning again and see if I'm lucky enough to speak to someone in Glasgow, they might understand better. |
Re: Contract renewal
Ring cancellation line.. option 4... You'll get a get a better chance of an explanation of the contract. Mega TV doesn't have TNT for starters

Re: Contract renewal
Try to get through to retentions and get a better deal.

Re: Contract renewal
Talk to them in case they can discount that. Some say offers around a tenner.

Re: Contract renewal
I was offered TNT sports for £13 pm but I can do without it. Got another 18 months for £64 so can't complain. No price rise until next year.
---------- Post added at 10:01 ---------- Previous post was at 09:58 ---------- It's deffo a TV 360 deal. |
Re: Contract renewal
also please bear in mind the new terms and conditions regarding leaving VM during a contract as I believe the cap has been removed which means that if you leave I think they now make you pay every penny of what you would have paid over the remaining months of a VM contract.
Therefore, if you pay £100/month and you leave, say three months in and with 15 months remaining I think I'm right in saying that VM would come after you for £1.500. I night be wrong about this but I'd suggest you find this out for certain so that you know exactly what you are agreeing to. |
Re: Contract renewal
The only way I'd be leaving them before the 18 months are up is if we move out of the network area

Re: Contract renewal
Well, that has been a bit of a trial!
I had my fourth phone call to them today, the second time I've tried selecting the cancellation option. Explained my package and the email promise of same package, clicking through to find quite different. He went away and eventually returned to offer £176 discounted to £144 (£66 since 17 months ago!) I said that wasn't any help and he put me through to "tier 2," a helpful chap in England instead of India. I was slightly wary of his knowledge when he said TV360 was fine, just a new remote (when I believe I'd lose current recordings) but eventually I've accepted my existing package for £76, £10 increase, but after 50 minutes, I was worn down. |
