Two V6 boxes
 

I have had two V6 boxes for about 18 months, one in the lounge and the other in the conservatory. For the first 12 months or so they seemed to be working fine and 'talking' to each other with no problem. But recently they will only 'talk' to each other intermittently. Restarting the boxes works sometimes but this is not a satisfactory method of getting over the problem. I have had a Virgin technician out but he was as useful as a chocolate fireguard blaming my WiFi which as I have a BT whole home system fitted with no problems with laptops and tablets makes his theory c--p. Anyway they were working at first. I have read somewhere that it could have something to do with 2.4 and 5.0 connection but am not savvy enough to understand what is meant. I have the superhub 3. Hopefully someone on this forum can help and explain in layman's terms what requires to be done. Thanks.

You may have had them set to shut down completely when when you switch off. Have a look at the different options available for shutting down

Are you relying on WiFi for both boxes or just one?
If both then that is a recipe for disaster.
What has likely happened is that your environment has become more prone to interference from your neighbours’ wifi environment.
Ideally, both boxes should be connected by Ethernet, either direct cable or via powerline adapters.
Failing that, one connected by Ethernet and the other by WiFi.
For any box connected by WiFi, it must be connected to a strong, reliable, interference-free signal, preferably to the 5GHz band.
You should make changes to Hub 3.0 to ensure that you can decide which band is used, as the hub comes with a single SSID covering both bands, making it impossible to connect to one band or the other.

I can only get my V6s to allow recordings to be viewed from the other box on 5.2.

On the rare occasions i've had connection problems, switching everything off (including the router/hub), then switching them on again, router/hub first, has solved it. If it worked before it should work again, use the 5Ghz wifi from the router - not sure if this is enabled by default on the hub or you have to set it up. (I use my own router and modem mode). I'm only using one box on wifi, 2 boxes might be pushing it but if it worked before, it should work again.

Thanks for the very useful replies. Not sure how to make changes to the hub but I take it that making all the outputs 5GHz and forgetting the 2.4GHz side should not make any difference to the other things connected by WiFi such as amazon stick, printer, laptop and tablets.

The 5GHz is much better over shorter distances, so it really depends on how far your V6 boxes are from the HUB3.

Will have to trawl VM pages to understand hub. Won't be able to get to it till end of week so will get back on here to report progress.

Sorted, I hope. I've connected the tivo boxes direct by ethernet to the Virgin hub 3. The one directly by the hub straight in and the other in the conservatory which is about 10 metres away to a powerline connection. The other equipment (laptop, tablets etc) take their WiFi from the BT whole home setup. Thanks again for all the help and suggestions.
