Train Spotters Corner

l wanted to start a thread for anybody who enjoys trains be they steam, electric or diesel.

I know a lot of people are into trains and railways and for me my love of it started when l was younger and continues unabated to this day.

Please also feel free to discuss anything you want to about it and please also feel free to post pictures and photos.

Pic I took of Tornado from last year on the West Somerset Railway

The owners of Tornado spotted it and asked my permission to use it in their A1 Magazine :)

Thats a brilliant photo Ravenheart and when our family go to Watchet in early July my dad has it in his plans to go there with myself and my brother so we are really looking forward to that with increasing relish.:)

Thanks Denphone :)

That was taken not far from Watchet, Opposite the Warren Bay camp site there's a path down the steep bank you can see on the right of the pic. You can get some good shots from the bank too. It's a lovely part of the world and there's plenty of good places to get pics.

£9bn railway investment to be announced by coalition.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18851907

Quote:

Details of a £9bn investment in the railways in England and Wales will be announced later by senior ministers.

The schemes are set to include electrification of the Midland Main Line between Bedford and Sheffield.

Other rail improvements are expected to be unveiled for the Manchester area, south Wales and East Coast Main Line.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, who is due to meet business leaders with David Cameron, said the plans would help "close the north south divide".

He and the prime minister are expected to brief on the rail plans at their meeting in the Midlands
Quote:

These are expected to include:

Electrification - completion of the Midland Main Line from Bedford to Sheffield, local lines in the Welsh Valleys, and an extension of the already-announced electrification between Manchester and Leeds

The Northern Hub - a series of projects around Manchester that improve northern rail capacity to get more and faster trains across the north of England

Upgrades to the East Coast Main Line from London to Leeds and Newcastle

The reopening of the east-west link from Oxford and Aylesbury to Milton Keynes

Electrification of the lines from London to Bristol and Cardiff, and from Manchester to Liverpool, Blackpool and Leeds.

Thought you guys might want a peek at these pics.
They are currently being restored as they are now out of service and many of the stations along the track have now closed down. In one direction the track is now no longer there.
I took them whilst in France as they reminded me of my childhood having travelled on these little trains.
I particularly like the blue one.

Yes its lovely to see these pictures but its so sad that many stations and tracks including our own country in that have disappeared and will never be seen again.

Virgin Trains loses West Coast Mainline franchise.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-19264614

Quote:

Virgin Rail has lost its bid to continue running the West Coast Mainline and will be replaced by the UK's largest rail operator, FirstGroup.

FirstGroup said it would "offer substantial improvements in the quality and frequency of services".

Sir Richard Branson said Virgin's loss of the franchise was "very disappointing news".

Unions and rail campaigners have argued jobs will be cut, fares will rise and catering services will be cut back.

FirstGroup already operates a number of rail routes including Great Western and ScotRail.

The company, under the name First West Coast Limited, will take over the franchise from 9 December and is due to to operate the service until 2026.
