wifi buddy

Yesterday I recieved an email about Virgins wifi buddy which says I can log on to hotspots without any extra charge. I do have virgin cable, but there is very little detail in the emil or Virgin mobile website. Does this mean it works at any hotspot?

from reading the comments on the play store its pretty much a useless app unless you live in london, seems like VM only have hotspots on the underground, though i maybe wrong there

From my understanding, the app is not about providing wifi hotspots but about swapping you to wifi hotspots you've previously used rather than using your data allowance.

Err... every Android phone does that automatically and has always done so...

WiFi Buddy is like all other telecoms providers' wifi apps. It automatically connects and logs you in to public hotspots that your phone cannot do so automatically. Also like most telecoms providers' wifi services, their wifi is provided public hotspots run by other companies, including 50,000 that you get access to as part of a Virgin Mobile plan but are thus far unannounced.

How do you find out where the hotspots are?

For me - if there are none in Oxfordshire then the app has no use - but I can't find where they are.

Are there any downsides to installing it? Does it over-ride other apps eg those for logging ontoThe Cloud which has more wifi hotspots?
