100Mb now available in NW London

Just went to check which services were available in my area and i was surprised to see 100Mb there, as the 100mb roll out pdf said i'd get it in May. Virgin are beating their own timetable...lol

Still only got 4 downstream channels and 1 upstream tho.

Zee 16-03-2012 14:32

Re: 100Mb now available in NW London

thanks. checked my area also 100Mb available, even though it said April. Possible early double speed maybe too...

Also now available at a relatives home, connected to the Newton Abbot UBR. I mentioned this and he telephoned Virgin to ask to be upgraded from 50Mbit to 100Mbit today, and was told that whilst it is available VM weren't upgrading people at present. Is this policy?

What do i say for them to push me the new config for 100Mb. I'm on 50Mb right now...

Re: 100Mb now available in NW London

I rang up VM to see if i can get 100mb and was told that there would be an increase in my monthly charge. I then asked would there be an increase in charge when my speed gets doubled in July and the lady said no. I guess i gotta ring again another day and try my luck or just wait for my speed to be doubled.

Seems odd given the price for those originally on 100Mbit is decreasing in, I think, April.

I was on 30Mb before.

I asked her i wanted to upgrade my speed (didn't specify the 30Mb > 60Mb) she said she would look at the prices. She came back and told me she would upgrade my speed to 60Mb with no changes to the price i pay, it took about 1 minute to kick in, now on 60Mb.

Hi Zee, gave them a call today and was upgraded to 100mb no extra charge. But still only getting 5Mb Upload. Did your upload speed increase to 6Mb or remain @ 30Mb?

mine actually went a little less, got a lower upload config file. Before was around 3.20Mb upload now around 2.90Mb upload.

upload speed will not be updated until around the time the actual upgrade was supposed to happen, so for our area it said July onwards...

My upgraded speed is rubbish. I cant even get above 30Mb this morning. I'm going to have to call them up to sort it.

How did you test the speed?

Also I would have thought yoru Max Traffic Rate on the upstream should be double if you been upgraded to double speed....

Re: 100Mb now available in NW London

My double speed upgrade is due in July. But 100mb just came into my area mid lastweek. So i called them yesterday and asked to upgrade to 100 and was told yep no problem no extra charge. So im on XXL 100. My upload speed won't be upgraded till July.

Anyway, I've been on the phone to the 100Mb support peeps, ran thru a number of tests and now i've got a network guy coming over tomorrow to repull and rewire my house. I've had this cabling donkeys years since Videotron came so early 90's. Hopefully it will sort the issue.

Yeah but it's still the same franchise which is the former Videotron/Cable and Wireless one covering Barnet,Brent,Ealing,Kensington and Chelsea,Hammersmith and Fulham,Richmond,Lambeth,Southwark,Greenwich,Bexley and I think Merton.

Cable London covers Camden,Islington,Hackney,Harringey and Enfield. This is a Telewest area.

BellCable Media former Cable and Wireless area covers Tower Hamlets,Newham,Redbridge,Havering,Epping Forest,Waltham Forest,Dagenham.

Telewest/General Cable/United Artists/Cable Corp:
Hillingdon,Hounslow,Slough,Twickenham,Croydon,Coul sdon,Purley

Nynex former Cable and Wireless covering:
Bromley and surrounding areas.

So there are many franchises across London which is why certain services are not yet available yet in some places whilst they are available in another borough.

Same with Bellcable Media and Nynex, it made Cable and Wireless the largest Cable company in London. Prior to that, Videotron was the largest and covered many areas, it even covered Telephone services in Westminster.

NTL in London was unheard of before 2000

But anyway back to the topic lol Virgin Media needs to get a move on with its rollout for 100mb, if BT Infinity catches up, they will have competition and I know for a fact BT will start a price war!

Finch was pushed back from December 2011 to March 2012 and then to April 2012 and May 2012. Ended up getting it done in March though.

Its no point them beating their timetable though and then ending up giving customers a poor web browsing experience.
