The problem here is that VM are reliant on signing deals with broadcasters not as big an issue for Sky seeing that they own a vast array of channels.

But remember Sky are also reliant on going out to the widest audience as this makes more money for them.

Has anyone heard anything about the potential launch dates for Film GB, Sofa Stars and Sofa Screen?

http://www.electric-sofa.com/filmgb.htm

These channels were supposed to launch before the end of 2011. The site owners, in the forum section of their site, have suggested they do have a launch date but can't confirm it as of yet.

There is some speculation, and it's only speculation, that the channels will launch by the end of February, with an official announcement at the end of this month. Further speculation suggests the channels will launch on SKY and Freesat. No mention of Virgin :(

Yes let's hope we don't see the dreaded words Sky the only place to watch all F1 races live in High Definition, I'm still confident a deal will get done.

Yes l am confident of a deal being done but then we have the vexed question of what package it is going to be on but one would suspect it will be on the SKY HD premium package.

I agree however, as per usual, SKY are in the driving seat. For all we know SKY and Virgin might already have an agreement, but Virgin aren't allowed to confirm or market the deal until 1 week from launch. This way Virgin customers who are F1 fans will think, for the next 9 weeks, the only way to get the channel is by joining SKY. I wouldn't expect it any other way from SKY as it makes perfect business sense..... well to me it does anyway.

ESPN has announced plans to introduce a revamped Sunday schedule this month, featuring live coverage of multiple sports.

The Disney-owned sports broadcaster will air nearly nine hours of live studio and sports programming every Sunday, starting on January 15.

All programmes will lead into and out of live UK and European Football, rugby and other sports (depending on the schedule), starting at 1.45pm and ending at 10.30pm.

The Sunday rundown will include pre and post match coverage of Budesliga and Serie A football, including the forthcoming Milan derby, as well as ESPN's existing studio presentation coverage of the English Premier League, FA Cup, SPL and Aviva Premiership Rugby.

It will also feature a revamped version of ESPN's weekly studio talkshow Talk of the Terraces, which moves from Monday night.

"Weekends are at the heart of the weekly sports agenda, and are often when ESPN features more live sport and reaches the biggest number of UK fans," said Jeroen Oerlemans, vice president and channel manager, ESPN - Europe, Middle East and Africa.

"This new schedule allows us to bring viewers a great blend of quality live sport, studio discussion and analysis from an outstanding roster of presenters, pundits and guests throughout the afternoon and evening each Sunday."

Meanwhile, ESPN is also launching a new weekly sports comedy show, titled Off the Ball, on January 12.

Hosted by Will Buckley, the 30-minute show will feature regular panellists offering their "wit and wisdom" on the latest goings-on in the English Premier League.

When ESPN first entered the UK market there was a hope that they could take on the behemeth of SKY but it seems they are content to play second fiddle to SKY as most of the sports rights they have picked up are basically scraps off the table while SKY has outbid them on every major sports right battle so far.

ESPN is not too bad for a saturday night football match to miss all the crud on the other channels ie the reality tosh dancing/singing shows (and i am not really a football fan!).And i have watched snippets of american sport on it to see if i could like it,but as for lots more content well sky sports have most of the best content sewn up ESPN are content to play second fiddle, though i think they may well get one more package of premiership football when the time comes.

Would i pay around £10 to sub no,but as an add on to TVXL i think it works well.

My package is a few pound cheaper than the equivalent on VM , once the College Football has finished I may just cancel saving me a further 9.00 especially since ESPNA have no NHL.

yes muppetman its swings and roundabouts with providers depending on your package,a friend of mine who is well into his football took sky up on the offer of ESPN free for 3 months, after the offer ended he cancelled as he was just watching the odd football match so could not justify paying £9 a month.

But if you want a bit of premiership and american sport with the odd other thrown in £9 a month probably could be justified.:)

Lets hope the F1 HD channel does launch on vm but it could well be a last minute thing as already pointed out,as sky will want to suck up as may subs as they can from their investment naturally, and any ads by VM would seriously detract from that.

The loss of NHL has damaged ESPN America. Once the Bowl season is over there will only be College BB until the MLB starts in afew months time.:(

i agree- there is a big hole in the ESPNA schedule for over a quarter of the year- only one sport -college hoops and the some NBA games on the main ESPN channel.a bit poor really. If it wasn't part of the XL pack i would not subscribe to it now and i have subscribed to NASN/ESPNA since its inception.

They really need to bring NHL back next year if they can. As ESPN have exclusive UK rights to NBA is there a reason they dont show more than the handful of games each week on ESPN. With all the available slots on ESPNA now they could at least double the live games shown if not more.

Exactly, College BB doesn't warrant 9.00 a month , not a problem when you have it included in XL.

The March 18th date was seen on Sky Sports 3 by me last night just before WWE Raw started.

I see that some of the 3D on demand was taken off on new years day. Others are due to come off by 16th January so I hope there will be some more new programmes soon. There is no date for when the ESPN 3d programmes are due to end though.

I have a feeling that ESPNA will be able to get the NHL rights for a good price next time they're available. The NHL gambled on getting loads of channels bidding for the rights in each country and it definitely seems to have backfired.

I imagine if Apple could buy all the rights (providing that is 'allowed') they will. They're not going to play second fiddle to anyone and they have the money to do it.

This apple thing will be in the press for a while and then disappear. It is unlikely they are going to want to spend billions on just football and it is unlikely that the EPL would want to sell their product to an proven distributor.

I might agree with you if anyone other then Richard Scudamore was in charge of the EPL,over a period of time he has been very keen to get in other bidders including reportedly AL Jazeera to bid for packages to push up their value ie the clubs milk the system, whilst Sky,ESPN,Apple, and perhaps Al Jazeera bid against themselves pushing the rights value up as well as subscriptions.

Anyway it willl be interesting to see who actually does bid.

Have you not heard its the EPL auction hokey cokey, their in out, in out shake it all about,:D:D a lot of speculation at the moment i guess Mr Scudamore would like as many bidders as possible to push the cost of rights ever upwards,i do hope he comes unstuck, as its only people that subscribe that will end up footing that inflationary cycle.

Its the silly season basically it happens before every EPL bidding cycle.

Anything is possible denphone but if its true that small world cable have got the standard F1 channel as part of one of their packages from next march, which it is (sky sports mix and ultimate supersaver on small world) ,i would think sky would have trouble on its hands letting one cable company have it inclusive, and charging anothers customers a separate subscription for the F1 channel.

I would smell another complaint to OFCOM.

And no i am against a separate subscription in general terms.

I would agree with on that, I do hope we do get both HD and SD versions without paying extra, but remember we are dealing with Sky!

BSkyB to keep Sky Living Loves on-air for an extra month?

As you may know BSkyB are set to close Sky Living Loves on January 24th in order to move Sky Arts HD up on the Sky EPG but I have just found this on the Sky Arts web site:

Quote:

(Sky Arts) channels will move up Sky’s Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) to positions 129 (Sky Arts 1 and Sky Arts 1 HD) and 130 (Sky Arts 2 and Sky Arts 2 HD), on Tuesday 21st February 2012.
http://www.skyarts.co.uk/skyarts/sky...w-home-on-sky/

So will Sky Living Loves now stay on air until February 21st?

More news as I get it...
