Russia Today bank accounts 'frozen in UK'

Quote:

NatWest bank has frozen the accounts of state-run broadcaster Russia Today (RT), its editor-in-chief says.

Margarita Simonyan tweeted: "They've closed our accounts in Britain. All our accounts. 'The decision is not subject to review.' Praise be to freedom of speech!"

RT says the bank gave no explanation for its decision. It said the entire Royal Bank of Scotland Group, of which NatWest is part, is refusing to service RT.
Ofcom? The Government? Or just NatWest?

I'd imagine commercial considerations by Nat West

What does RT know about freedom of anything? If ever there was an entirely government biased media organisation RT would be the supreme definition of it.

The fact that RT is allowed to broadcast its unending torrent of pro Putin/anti west propaganda in the UK is proof that we enjoy a lot more 'freedom' than Russia does.

To be fair Russia is big on freedom of the press, it's just unfortunate that so many of their journalists as so careless near open windows and stray bullets...

Yes, they're particularly 'free' to broadcast what Putin tells them...

Sounds like our Government is sick of this propaganda being pumped into the UK. Doing this indirectly by getting NatWest to do this is probably more tactful in a volatile situation.

Allowing alternative viewpoints to air is one thing, but this is probably simply the mouthpiece of Putin and his lies.

RT only broadcasts on VM in the ROI.

So far it looks as if it's Natwest alone and they're free to move elsewhere.

It'll be interesting to see if any other bank will touch this hot potato (even without any unofficial Govt. intervention).

Is RT on Freesat?

Maybe or maybe his internet is down? For a global conspiracy closing someone's accounts with 2 months notice and taking down their wi-fi is rather boring.

Days after the CIA is reported to go after Russia due to the embarrassing Clinton leaks Assange and RT take a hit.
