ps 3 wont connect via my cable connection
 

hello
can anyone help , i have a new ps 3 and trying to get it online , through my wired connection , in auto mode on the ps 3 it keeps saying failed connection , i prefer wired as it does not drop the connection as much as wireless ,
cant understand why the ps3 cant connect directly via my cable connection ?
p.s i am using virgin cable broadband

Did you restart the cable modem after connecting the ps3?

yes i did that and it still comes up the same

Is the ps3 is set to obtain ip and dns automatically?
If so, turn both off, turn modem on, wait for the lights to settle then turn ps3 on.
If it still fails call tech support on 151 or 0845 454 1111 and they should be able to see if the ps3 has asked for an ip address.

Bear in mind VM don't technically support the ps3 connection so if they tell you to call PC Help or Sony straight off, tell them you don't want technical support, you simply want to know if an ip address has been assigned.
