So what happens when all Proxy Servers are disabled?
Well
When I surf the web specifying NO PROXIES in browser connection settings, I get the following, never faster than 7MB. Without Proxy Mon, 14 May 2007 21:36:59 UTC 1st 512K took 657 ms = 779.3 KB/sec, approx 6421 Kbps, 6.27 Mbps 2nd 512K took 625 ms = 819.2 KB/sec, approx 6750 Kbps, 6.59 Mbps 3rd 512K took 625 ms = 819.2 KB/sec, approx 6750 Kbps, 6.59 Mbps 4th 512K took 640 ms = 800 KB/sec, approx 6592 Kbps, 6.44 Mbps Overall Average Speed = approx 6628 Kbps, 6.47 Mbps But when I use most Luton Proxies which is the network seg im using, and especially Luton 12 Proxy I get full speed or close to it. With Luton 12 Proxy Mon, 14 May 2007 21:38:11 UTC 1st 512K took 438 ms = 1169 KB/sec, approx 9633 Kbps, 9.41 Mbps 2nd 512K took 437 ms = 1171.6 KB/sec, approx 9654 Kbps, 9.43 Mbps 3rd 512K took 438 ms = 1169 KB/sec, approx 9633 Kbps, 9.41 Mbps 4th 512K took 437 ms = 1171.6 KB/sec, approx 9654 Kbps, 9.43 Mbps Overall Average Speed = approx 9644 Kbps, 9.42 Mbps I would like to know whats gonna happen when the proxy servers are disabled or removed completely? Especially with 20MB upgrades coming soon, am I gonna get ****e speeds whenever i use HTTP? Im not too fussed as I use Usenet and Newsgroups most of time. But if i want to download the odd Linux Iso or MS Service Pack, I would like more than 6MB. Why is the speed restricted at 6MEG without a proxy and has been like this for years, this certainly isnt Traffic Shaping, as other protocols are fine and other proxies are, is there a way around this? Thanks |
Re: So what happens when all Proxy Servers are disabled?
But they're transparent proxies - you don't need to have anything int he connection tab to still be on one. If you force a proxy and get better speeds it merely means the on eyou've been forced to use is overrun and you've chosen a better proxy.
When they get turned off, the network will crumble. 20Mbps and no proxies is a bad, bad thing. |
