How many days holiday a year do you get?

Interesting article on the BBC website today about the difference in paid holiday entitlement between the USA and the UK.

The average leave entitlement in the UK is 20 days, and in the US 9 days (but you have to accrue it); in fact, 1 in 4 workers in the USA do not get any paid holiday or paid vacation (not sure what the difference is).

A handy chart for some countries

How many days paid holiday do you get a year? (don't forget to add on Bank Holidays if you get paid for them).

Once again, you would be mistaken. ;)

I currently get 38 days annual leave, 3 additional days at Christmas, and 8 days public holiday - so in total, out of approx 260 working days per year, I get 49 days off. :D

My American sister-in-law gets 14 days off paid. She can take more (I think upto month or more) but its unpaid. That's working at Wal-Mart, no less but in the oil & lub dept which may be different from the shop-floor staff.

I get 26 days + bank holidays. Although i'm on a contract at the moment so the paid annual leave part is pro-rataed

I get 2 that I can take, the others (not sure how many) are incorporated into our 10 days off that we get every month, if we are ill on the 10 off we can claim 5 days holiday back.

We work 4 on, 4 off, 4 on, 4 off, 4 on, 10 off. Repeat till dead.

 This makes me jealous.

I get 20 not including Bank Holidays.

I don't know how Americans cope with so few days off, they work longer hours as well don't they?

29 plus bank holidays. Allowed 2 days flexi per month too so all in all I'm happy with my lot.

I was headhunted about 4 years ago and the hunter was prepared to through a few thousand extra a year my way and match the 34 hour week. However I'd lose 5 days a year plus flexitime.

I decides to stay put. I have 2 young kids and decided that the correct work/life balance required more time off, not less. :D
