Not much pace in midfield with that formation.

England's 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign opened in emphatic fashion as Moldova were outclassed 5-0 in Chisinau.

Moldova, San Marino and other small nations shouldn't be in the world cup, instead they should have their own small nations cup or similar where they play against places like Fiji, Samoa and anywhere else with a sub-5million population.

.....really..?

Re: World Cup road to 2014

Have they ever got through to the finals in the last world/euro cups It must be demoralising for them to end up 5-0 or more against a team with the media describing them as whipping boys of the group..

Re: World Cup road to 2014

Maybe it spurs us on more? Allows our players to have experience against top international sides? Nobody forces us to enter tournaments.

Kymmy 08-09-2012 09:20

Re: World Cup road to 2014

Yet every tournament they enter they are end up bottom (or near bottom)

It's why we have football leagues so you don't get someone like Barton Rovers playing against MU unless Barton Rovers have proved themselves and gain promotion or get through the first few rounds of the FA cup. As for experience that's what friendlies are for..

Re: World Cup road to 2014

Friendlies aren't guaranteed though. And teams rarely play their best and strongest squad in a friendly. Elitism is rife in certain footballing countries but that doesn't make it right.

... because teams like Uruguay could never win the World Cup ;)

{sub 4 million population}

I did suggest small nations with a sub 5m pop.. Uruguay has never been a small nation.. Nor was I dictating entry rules.. just that there are certain countries that are lost at the bottom of international football and it would be a chance for them to have a competition on their own level instead of being the "whipping boys"

Re: World Cup road to 2014

Well seeing as none of these 'lost' countries have gotten together to make such a suggestion, perhaps it should be left up to them to decide if that's what they want.

How about a 'deluxe elite' competition only for international sides that have made it to the semi finals more than once? Perhaps they'd prefer a tournament for teams at their level?

I'm sure that most of the Conference league teams in the UK wouldn't complain if they were playing against premiership sides even if they lost time and time again.. but the FA doesn't allow it..

Just that last night was a one sided football match and it's the same with most Moldova/San Marino and other small nations teams

Perhaps maybe a system that only allows teams to enter competitions based on world rankings??
