Job interview with JET2....help needed!

Hello!

As the title may suggest I have a job interview in the morning for Cabin Crew with Jet2! I really really want this job and I'm looking forward to the interview!

I need some help1 I know some of what's in store. I have to stand up and tell everyone (all applicants) why i want to work for Jet2. I can't think what to say it's just something i want to do! So can you guys give me some advice on what to say? I also need to say what my weaknesses are, but I can't think what to say to also make it sound positive and not too bad.

The final and worst thing is i will get given a product to stand up and sell to everyone, any tips? i'm really not good on sales!

Help :Yikes:

do your research NOW, I guess it's an airline?
where do they fly too/from, what is their advertising slogans, what market are they aiming for.
Start with a script, write it out and try it out on someone
Look above their heads for most of the time but don't avoid eye contact( it helps you concentrate)
Dress for business, sort it out the night before(that will be tonight then:rolleyes: )
Get an early alcahol free night
make sure you know exactly where it is and how to get there and how long it takes to travel( book your taxi/lift, is there petrol in the car?
Look at selling something as if you want to buy it yourself?
And most important..

KEEP SMILING:)

Yes they're a Manchester based airline. I've got the outfit sorted and i've researched the company, i just keep going blank when i think of these questions!

how about you want to work for them...

because you welcome the opportunity to broaden your experience by travel & contact with different people & cultures, but also feel that they, as a more focussed company will offer enhanced opportunities for progression over a bigger, but more diverse one.

:)

Write them down, sounds simple but just the act of writing them down will start you off,
start with a list of good points ie why do think you can do the job?
Does your previous job have any talents you can utilise?
there must have been some sort of whittling down of applicants? what helped you get this far?
If you were going to employ someone what would you look for (Just a pretty face?.....I don't think so :) but it probably helps.
Hobbies are a good indication as well as to your character
Languages?

thanks for the advice, i'm writing things down as we speak! I have another question though! My main weakness is being over confident, how do i turn this into a positive at the interview when i'm asked what my weaknesses are?

The fact that you recognise it is a plus point :)

The way to work it to your advantage is to put it down to general exuberance( Thats a good word :D keep that one!) and a keenness to get on and learn the job. Aways bearing in mind that your overconfidence doesn't mean you are not willing to learn and take critisim when needed.
Hows that?

Help :Yikes:

It's a bit late now but people I know at Gatwick are always moaning about the on board sales of VAT free goods, they have targets to meet and certain products are promoted, in short, trawl the net tonight and try to pick up some sales jargon or you will be at a disadvantage. Most of the other applicants will have a retail background which they will be able to draw. Remember, sell yourself, sell the airline and give them a good sales pitch !!!!
To some extent use the old saying "Bull**** baffles brains" but dont lose sight of the objective to convince them that you are the best candidate they will see and the others are "also rans"
Good luck and break a leg, as they say in showbiz because you are putting on the best show they will see today !!!!! :tu:

Hi Kimberley,
It is supposed to have a quote from you in a greyed out box with my comments below in normal font and text, still who cares so long as you get the job.

Can't really give you advice about the interview over and above the normal 'do your research, be yourself' type of stuff.

However, I guess the selling bit is all to do with their Skyshop; think about how would you get someone on a 45 minute flight to buy a sandwich and a can of coke off your trolley? ;)

I like Jet2 - my flights from Gatwick to Manchester & back in November are less than £45 return all in; BA would have been about £100 or so. Though I can't see how they stay in business; the only time I've seen the planes more than a third full was when the strike at Heathrow was on & everyone was switching to Gatwick.

Good luck :)

hello!

Update time! The interview went really well, It was a good laugh, there were 35 people there and 8 got through the assessments and tests etc on to one-to-one interviews....and I was one of them! I'm off work today with a delightful chest infection but I could find out from today onwards if I got the job!

Thanks for all the advice ;)

Hmm, different cultures and people. Have you seen Jet2's route network - all short haul European. Lot of typical Brit haunts. Not knocking Jet2 though - good airline showing strong growth.

Sorry to be a bit negative but are you sure you know what you're getting into Kimberley? Cabin crew is not the best job in the world. You'll have rapid airport turnarounds so, whilst you'll enjoy travel benefits, don't expect to see too much of the world whilst working. The job is hard and as has been pointed out, very service and retail focused. This is not glamour. However, your primary function - though not on a day-to-day basis one trusts! - is safety so be prepared for the training.

Having said all that. it's horses fopr courses I guess so if it's really what you want to do good luck with it. And if you want to learn more about what it's like to work at Jet2 and other airlines check out the Cabin Crew forum on www.pprune.org

Cheers.

Andy

I'm fully aware it is not the best job in the world, but it's something i want to do, I've just finished uni and want to do it whilst I have nothing stopping me and yes I have seen the route network, i'd hardly have gone to the interview not knowing that. Mmmmm I don't even know if I've got the job yet! :)

Good luck to you - if it's what you want to do, hope you get the job. That pprune site may well be useful - lots of crew contribute so you can get some insight into working conditions etc and compare against experiences of those working for other airlines.

I've been using another site, which was useful, on the assesment day we spoke to alot of the crew and we were given rosters etc.

Your best bet is asking on the following boards at the pprune forums.
Lot's of cabin crew and pilots for many airlines will be able to help you out there.

Ahhh, I'm a bit late now! I worked for them as Cabin Crew for a year back in 2007 at MAN. It was good fun, money was pretty good too....

But beware for the first 6 weeks when you are training you only get between £550 - £600 as you don't get any commission or your hourly flight pay until you actually start flying....they don't tell you that until your first day either! After that I usually got around £1400 - £1500 after tax and usually worked less than 30 hours a week.

The maths test isn't really a test! More like currency conversion with a calculator...about 3 questions out of a 50 question test! It's mainly geography, landmarks, currency etc. Really easy!

When you first arrive you have a face and full length photo taken, then you have to stand up in front of the group (15 - 30) people and and talk about yourself and then decribe your most embarassing memory.

The you'll be split into groups and given 2 - 3 exercises to do, from what I can remember they were scenarios involving who to put on a lifeboat with 10 spaces when you have 20 people. One was a priest and the other was Madonna?! There is no right answer, they are just looking at how you work as a team! Just look for quiet people in your group and try an involve them! Save your really good points for when the interviewer is nearby as they walk all around the room!

You then break for lunch and go back to the room where they tell you if you have been sucessful in getting through to the 1-1 interview stage, only 8 people got through from our group!

You then have to try on a uniform so they can see how you look in it then have a 15 minute interview. If you get this far, I'd assume you've got it. I don't know of anyone who failed the interview stage...it's more of a formality! Questions were along the lines of, how would you feel about cleaning up? How would you deal with a rowdy group of lads on a 1am flight back from Ibiza and if it was a cold winter morning at 3am, how would you mitivate yourself. Really easy common sense stuff!

Good luck! Let me know how you get on!

K :)

sounds like mostly personality tests - making sure you have one and you are normal and not a nutter.

shredder 31-12-2008 12:52

Re: Job interview with JET2....help needed!

Lol essentially yes! All they seemed to care about was that you were outgoing, had a degree of common sense and looked ok in the uniform!
