I was headhunted about 4 years ago and the hunter was prepared to through a few thousand extra a year my way and match the 34 hour week. However I'd lose 5 days a year plus flexitime.

I decides to stay put. I have 2 young kids and decided that the correct work/life balance required more time off, not less. :D

Absolutely - one of the reasons I moved into my present employ - I was contracting for a couple of years, and as above posters have said, you don't work, you don't get paid, and before that had 25 days annual leave in the previous permy job.

I get 28 days plus bank holidays, going up next year as i have been there over 10 years to 33 days plus bank holidays.

But i usually have bank holidays as days off in lieu not on the day as i work for the NHS.

Cannot complain though.:)

25 days standard plus 4 days long service plus Bank Hols.
Never use them all and carry upto 5 days over to the next year!

Zero.

Yes teachers get paid holidays but not when you are a supply teacher. So all my holidays are unpaid.

Interesting article ....

Yes, the article is interesting, but your chart is misleading as it shows paid leave entitlement guaranteed by law. So, my interpretation of the USA being at the bottom of the chart is that this is a "less government" society where employers are left to make their own contracts with employees, with minimal state interference. Being high up in the table is a bad thing, in my opinion.

To answer your question, I'm entitled to 27 days leave (take them when I like) plus nine statutory days (take them when I'm told), a total of 36 days, which if I'm honest if far too much. But if I don't take them, I lose them, which is why today I'm sitting at home, currently looking through the Forum. :)

Problem with the lack of government intervention is that 28 million working Americans don't get any holiday leave at all though

Quite. The chart says 20 holidays for The Netherlands. When I last worked there (10 years ago) I had about 40 paid holiday days per year plus bank holidays. I never managed to take them all.

30 days plus 4 statutory (25+26 Dec, 1+2 Jan). not allowed to carry more than 4 to next year

I struggle to take them all... my wife forces me though

33 days (10 years NHS service) and then bank holidays on top - its about the only 'perk' i get on top of a decent sick pay scheme (which i don't make full use of - unlike some others!)

Re: How many days holiday a year do you get?

25 plus 8 bank holidays. After 10 years service it goes up to 28 or 30.

Obviously as 24/7 coverage is needed in my line of work you don't always get the bank holidays and are compensated for them which seems to send the Daily Mail into the kind of rabid completely false headlines they normally reserve for stories about gay illegal immigrants on drugs and benefits.

As a worker in NHS I get 33 A/L, 12 Flexi - extra half hour a day - let it build up, and 8 BH. = 53.

How long can it last ??????
