"Inspect Element(Q)".

OK I give up.

When I right click on anything on my screen when I am using Firefox I get the option to "Inspect Element(Q)". All I have been able to track down is here and what that says is as clear as mud. :dunce:

Now I know my limits and I wouldn't dream of messing with what appears on my screen but I would like to try to understand what it is showing me. Sometimes it's obvious as it will just describe what I have clicked on ie img profilepic ... but click on the Google logo when doing a search gives a whole screen full of scarey computer blah.

Can anyone please help?

Re: "Inspect Element(Q)".

It's just a CSS/SCRIPT/HTML element viewer.. A lot more simplified than Firebug.. Handy if you're designing/debugging webpages/sites but not much use elsewhere.

Cheers Kymmy.

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2016/10/1.gif I shall now go and look up what you have posted. My ignorance astounds me.

In simple terms.. It allows someone to check the coding that makes up part of a web page, so if you want to alter color, font, spacing..etc it'll point you where to make the alterations within the CSS (the file that dictates those details)

Soooooooo ...in other words I shouldn't touch it with an extended, double length barge pole. :D

I have just had a Google and scarily enough I understand what it is for, even if reading the links that came up did make my brain hurt a tad. Thanks again.

You can touch it as it's a viewer so can't do any harm.. It doesn't allow you to change what's for example is on googles servers.. I use firebug (a more detailed version) when sorting out problems on my sites which I have direct access to the CSS/HTML/PHP pages which I can alter dorectly.

Ah, my not being able to crash the whole WWW is most reassuring. :D
