Turkey's President Erdogan on Brink of Dictatorship

This cannot be good....

Quote:

Turkey's main opposition party has said it will call for a recount in up to 60% of votes as exit polls show the "yes" campaign to grant President Recep Tayyip Erdogan new powers is narrowly ahead.

State-run Anadolu news agency said votes in favour of allowing 18 constitutional changes stood at 51.3% with 98% of ballots counted.

The changes would replace Turkey's parliamentary system of government with a presidential one and could see Mr Erdogan remain in office until at least 2029.

Presidential sources claimed that Mr Erdogan has said the result of the referendum is clear.

Opinion polls had shown a narrow lead for a "yes" vote before Sunday's ballot, but the country's three largest cities - Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir - and the mainly Kurdish southeast looked set to vote "no".

Ataturk will be spinning in his grave.

And a lot of his opponents will be locked up in days....

I hope the EU has plenty of space for Turkish refugees i.e. almost anyone who voted against him.

Surely you would want to be respecting the democratic process and expecting him to implement the will of the people

I see that Istanbul and several other large areas voted against. Does that mean they'll do a Scotland and demand independence? ;)

What you mean like all those other despots who hold supposed 'elections' but rig them through campaigns of intimidation?

Just look at what he's already done in terms of silencing any opposition.

Unofficially marked papers being counted as part of the vote, is suspicious and needs investigating. Opposition party leaders is calling for the vote to be annulled.

Did anyone expect erdogan to do this properly and legitimately i didn't and i gaurantee this vote doesn't stand upto scrutiny I'm also sure it doesn't matter as somewhere in these new powers will be his power to ignore whatever he doesn't like or agree with.
