How does a broadband connection share out it's bandwidth?

Does it share it out equally, by the bandwidth need of each device, on a first come first served basis

Is it possible to prioritise who gets what from the router?

Thanks.

Router wise it's purely first come first served, the devices themselves sort out who gets how much.

Yes, it is possible to prioritize who gets what.

Google for Bandwidth control and QoS
