£119 for wireless "air pods" .....i don't think so

wonder how much they charge for the adaptor to connect traditional ear phones

Nothing. There is one in the box with the phone.

However I am sure the UK price is going to be £159

Also the ear buds that come in the box connect by lightning connector.

There are better and cheaper Bluetooth headphones out there.

Read between the lines of the whole thing. This is solely to receive licencing fees from the various companies that will now develop third party connectors or audio hardware designed for this phone. Apple being Apple. What's new?

Our twins dumped wired headphones/earphones years ago and changed to bluetooth. And my daughter's phone recharges without a physical connector, plus the battery is sealed inside.

Seeing as Apple are the third manufacturer to ditch the 3.5mm jack this year, I'd say it's more likely to be part of a general trend away from its use. The socket for the jack is a void inside the phone's casing that is a waste of space except when in use (and there are a lot of people who don't use their iPhone for playing music).

Plus, they're including a lightning-3.5mm adaptor in the box so they're hardly pushing people to buy wired headphones with a lightning connector are they.

This is part of a long running philosophy at Apple anyway. They ditched the 3.5" floppy drive and serial and parallel ports from their computers long before any other high street pc brand.

Apple...

Not quite what they used to be.
iPhone 7 so many leaks, it's as well jobs is dead he'd have been livid.

Apple could have deflected the no jack thing by simply including Wireless charging of the phone. You know that thing Androids been doing for years. It would at least have stopped the charging phone or listening to my el crappo lightning port headphone jack add on dilemna.

Not everyone wants or likes bluetooth speakers/headphones, apart from the fact that now you have yet another thing to charge up, the quality is never as good as a good wired headset.

Still nevermind, if Apples waterproofing is as good as the thickness of the metal used in construction [bendgate] or the placement of wi-fi antenna in the phone [antennagate] then shortly I'm sure we'll have WATERGATE :D

That'll stop people stressing over the headphone jack.

Bluetooth would still work. As would anything using the adapter but lightening or their W1 chip will probably require licensing.

The leaks were almost certainly intentional. Apple PR clearly leaked the headphone news ahead of time to soften the impact of it's removal. The backlash isn't nearly as bad as it would have been had it not been known in advance.

I think the metal they use the phone hampers the wireless charging and they're unlikely to use plastic. The rumour is they're working on 'true' wireless charging which would not require connection to the pad or what have you, just being in the vicinity of the charger. Although I do think they should have had wireless charging already.

I'd agree if the leaks were only headphone jack, the phone sites I frequent have practically given the whole specs away long before it was released.

Well some of them yeah. They didn't get the info on the A10 chip though.

Apple won't be able to be as secretive as before due to the sheer amount of phones they need to make. They'll have to ramp up months before release and enviable they will be a lot of leaks.

Pretty rip off prices in the UK, compared to the US (for all iPhones).

Their "exchange rate" is about 1.07

iPhone 7 Plus $769 > £719 (1.07)

iPhone 7 $649 > £599 (1.08)

iPhone 6s Plus $649 > £599 (1.08)

iPhone 6s $549 > £499 (1.10)

iPhone SE $399 > £379 (1.05)

Blaming "Brexit" is just an excuse IMO, the dollar exchange rate is 1.32 atm.

Dollar prices tend to appear much lower because they don't normally include sales tax, unlike UK prices which by law have to include VAT.

They probably are still cheaper in the USA, but not by quite as much as it first seems.

Do something controversial and dress it up as a bold technical step forward and hey presto! everyone's talking. The buzz generated gets the product into heads even those who think it's a load of old cack.

Far less people would give a stuff if Apple released just another iPhone with a few upgraded bits inside.
