Tonight BBC Newsnight will host a live debate between boxing promoter Frank Warren and Robert Smith, secretary of the British Boxing Board of Control, to discuss the imminent bout between heavyweight fighters David Haye and Dereck Chisora. The show starts at 10:30pm on BBC 2. This should be worth a watch!

So, from midnight tonight BoxNation are to start charging £10 registration. A sign that they are now popular enough to get away with this, or a sign of desperation??

It's the sign of a smart company who have learned from previous mistakes.

When Chisora faced Klitschko Boxnation were hit with 30,000 people trying to subscribe in the 24 hours leading up to the fight. Boxnation couldn't handle the demand. They decided to show the fight for free which resulted in hundreds of complaints from paying customers. They are trying to avoid a repeat of this and have been telling people who might subscribe for next weeks fight NOT to leave it to the last minute.

Boxnation have been advertising the £10.00 registration charge on their Facebook page, their website, Twitter, The Bunce Boxing Hour and The Sun newspapers for weeks. They have been completely open and honest about the introduction of this charge.

The £10.00 charge is not applicable to Virgin customers. SKY customers can get 2 months of Boxnation for £10.00 by going to www.boxnation.com and enter the promotional code SUNBOXING. The discount offer ends at 11.59pm on July 6.

when you said boxnation showed the klitschko/chisora fight for free, did you mean that boxnation was beamed out un- encrypted?

Here is the statement Boxnation released on the Monday after the fight:

"There was an issue on Saturday evening with taking online bookings for the Vitali Klitschko v Dereck Chisora World Boxing Council (WBC) World Heavyweight title fight.

Due to unprecedented demand for orders, the pay system experienced technical problems just after 7pm and some further bookings were unable to be taken.

As a result, we understand that many customers went through a stressful period of attempting to subscribe unsuccessfully and so, as a gesture to those customers, the live fight was made available free to watch on BoxNation on the Sky platform. The problem did not affect viewers who had ordered on the Virgin platform.

BoxNation apologizes for the problems customers encountered and will fully investigate the matter so that these do not happen again."

When the registration fee comes in, this won't encourage people to sign up early before the next peak time, as it will already in place.

Maybe the registration fee increase is going to be introduced about a week before the next big fight, to encourage people to subscribe early again??

http://www.boxnation.com says "THIS OFFER CLOSES AT 4PM ON SATURDAY AFTER WHICH THE REGISTRATION FEE IS SUBJECT TO INCREASES GET IN EARLY

So, it looks like the offer is now on until 4pm today. (The webpage is really poorly written.)

Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?

Looks like they are over complicating things. Still if potential new Virgin customers get in now they won't be stung.

"Furthermore, any Sky TV users who subscribe after 6pm on July 14th will be charged a late booking surcharge which will increase based on demand."

That is just mental. SKY customers who leave it to the last minute will be charged £10.00 registration fee + £10.00 subscription fee plus an extra late booking fee. If people are leaving it too late they could end up paying about £25.00!

Which is basically what you might pay on pay per view. I think it's really clever.

Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?

should be picked up by boxnation!

George Groves will return to the ring in the United States at the end of the month.

The British and Commonwealth super-middleweight champion takes on Mexican Francisco Sierra in San Jose on July 28 on the undercard of the WBC welterweight title fight between Robert Guerrero and Selcuk Aydin.

A series of last-minute injuries have kept Groves idle since his victory over Paul Smith in November, and the unbeaten Londoner is desperate to get his career back on track.

"It is more relief than anything now that I finally have a date to box," Groves told his own website.

"It feels like a lifetime since I last fought and I need to make up for lost time seeing as I haven't managed one round of competitive fighting this year!

"Francisco Sierra is a very seasoned and tenacious fighter. He packs a punch and has a typical 'no holds barred' Mexican style. I can't wait to face this test, and finally show all the improvements I have made this year."

Sierra, the same age as Groves at 24, has been in with Edison Miranda during a 31-fight career featuring five defeats.

Robert Guerrero Vs. Selcuk Aydin is a Goldenboy show so it looks like Boxnation will snap this up. I've watched Selcuk Aydin about 4 times on Eurosport in the past couple of years. He's a tough big punching Turk who is making the jump up to the top level against Guerrero. Should be fun whilst it lasts however can't see Aydin picking up the win.

If you haven't seen this yet, it's worth a watch!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-OibaJTDRU

It's Monte Barrett Vs. Shane Cameron from Wednesday. If you don't want to watch the whole fight, skip to 13 minutes in to see the beginning of the end. Talk about a power punch!
