Network Advice

Good Morning Forum Members.

I hope someone here can give me advice.

I currently have a superhub running in 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi mode, on the medium broadband service.

Behind that I have the following:
Zxyel NSA310 - RJ45 media server
XBOX 360 with NOW TV & Amazon Prime - RJ45
Smart TV - RJ45
Desktop PC - Wireless (N)
Laptop - Wireless (G)
Plus 2 smartphones and 2 tablets.

My question's are;
1. That reading aroud the net, I'm worried that the superhub may not be able to cope with this workload? And that I should use a dedicated router instead.

2. Regarding dedicated routers, I do have the following devices in my man drawer: Netgear Wireless N WNR2000 and a Netgear N 300 WNR2200

Would any of these do a better job streaming locally or am I better off looking for a newer model?

Thanks for your time,

S7rikeback.

Until you test the SH you won't know if it can handle it.

For the average user it should be ok for what they throw at it.

However if you want a router look at an Asus RT-N66U or equivalent latest.

1) Do you actually have a specific problem with the Superhub? If not, then no.

2). No. Streaming locally places no real load on any router. A ten year old ethernet hub could do the job just as well.

[QUOTE=qasdfdsaq;35687428]1) Do you actually have a specific problem with the Superhub? If not, then no.

We are getting a slight buffering during playback, it's not consistant and only happens randomly on Prime and also NOW TV, which we use via the XBOX 360 services.

Think I'll look to upgrading my connection and then retesting both Prime and NOW TV.

Thank you all for the helpful advice.

S7rikeback.

Re: Network Advice

Sounds more like you have a slow internet connection.

Nothing to do with the speed you pay for, it's down to local congestion on VM's network.

Do some speed testing and ping monitoring before paying money for something that may make no difference.

S7rikeback.

I have SH2 feeding two desktops, laptop, iPad & iPhone, TV & Blue Ray player then TP link adapters downstairs to TV and Blu Ray and it all copes fine, some wired and some wireless

Oh and they all get the full 50Mb

On the back of the modem is a label and this has the usual, Model & Serial Numbers, some will have the IP/MAC and Username & Password.
