Replacing VM Superhub

Hi. If I was to replace the Virgin Media Superhub with 3rd party kit do I need both a cable modem and a router or just a router? Does anyone have any recommendations as the best modem/router alternatives? Thanks.

Re: Replacing VM Superhub

You cannot replace the superhub with a 3rd party modem. Only kit issue by Virgin will work on their system. However, you CAN put the SHub into modem mode and add your own router.
There has been masses of discussion on here about that option. I suggest you have a browse around the forums and see what others have to say.

And welcome.

Thanks Dai. Does the Superhub need to be physically connected (wired) to router?

when you put the shub into modem mode it loses its routing fuctionality and wireless capabilities so it needs to be directly connection to your router, just like you have to have your main phone at home directly connected to the RJ11 socket in the wall and then you can have cordless phones dotted around the house.

Here is a link for a recent thread discussing routers
