Excellent. It's not much but at least they're tweaking upload speeds as well, hopefully the 200 tier will see an upload boost too.

The trial areas were:- Thames Valley (England) areas of Reading, Bracknell, Basingstoke, Newbury and Marlow.

The list you linked to includes:- Basildon, Southend, Gillingham, Cambridge, the Cotswolds, Epping, Loughton, Glenrothes, South Herts and Watford, and West Sussex.

That does appear to be confirmation that the trials have gone well enough to roll out to at least certain areas. Some areas may be easier to do this in than others.

I'm not in a trial area, and my speed has improved. My SH3 is actually in modem mode anyway.

Wifi trial doesn't have anything to do with the speed boosts. The public wifi is on a seperate connection.

I believe the WiFi channel operates even if you are in modem-only mode. It is a completely separate arrangement.

The WiFi trial and rollout is not linked to speed upgrades. Similarly speed upgrades are not necessarily linked to network upgrades.

The WiFi channel does not operate when you are in modem mode and currently it won't allow you to use other WiFi hotspots as you aren't sharing yours

Which is a huge shame, as it would have allowed for stronger coverage.

Me too. Really disappointed in this. VM need to be aware that the freedom to use your own router is one of the factors that keeps some of us with them.

Currently I am able to access Virgin WiFi all over the place, including down in the Tube stations. Will this end when I get to choose whether I am a hotspot or not?

Sorry, off topic.
