FA Cup 2016/2017

City have a very strong side out tonight.

Very interesting stat in paper today, four out of five of the last straight red cards for West Ham players have been rescinded on appeal. Wonder how many points that may have cost them?

The reds second team proved far to strong for the Royals however I would describe what I saw as profligate. Could and should have hit double figures given the chances.

Goes off to look for the Johnstones Paint Trophy and Oldham Sunday League threads. :D

Good to see Barrow beaten by Rochdale. Dirtiest team since Leeds circa. 1973.

Doesn't bother us much, we needed a draw or defeat and Brighton to draw. They lost too though so not entirely great. (Due to 3 away games in 7 days, a draw for either or a defeat for one would've remedied this)

As it stands we're no better off. :erm:

Fortunately, since my team is so poor atm, the FA Cup is not a worry (again).

But if I were one of the teams still in it, I would be very irritated by this habit in recent years of putting out weak teams. :td:
If I pay to watch my team, I expect them to put out the best team possible, especially when a trip to Wembley cup final is in the offering.

Too much football that's the issue and when forced to choose the FA Cup ranks below the Premier League. The top teams want to concentrate on winning the league or getting into Europe. The bottom teams have worst squad depth and want to stay in the league. Some Championship teams will be aiming to get into the Premier League.

There are fixtures tomorrow and Wednesday which forced a lot of teams to rest players.

adzii_nufc 30-01-2017 13:00

Re: FA Cup 2016/2017

Yeah, Sky booked us is for a few TV slots matched with the already absurd schedule leaving us with QPR on Wednesday and shortly after we have 3 away games in 7 days because of TV picks. We had pretty decent depth at the start of the season, it's faded away with sudden injuries to 3 of our 4 strikers and combined with the desire not to get the likes of Ritchie, Shelvey and co injured we fielded a youth/fringe team albeit with the Serbian brute leading the line.

We still should've beat Oxford but truth be told, they were hoping for a Draw or a Brighton draw, as long as one of us drew the result would have been a happy one and ruined Sky's TV picks and resolved this fixture mess.

Yup. It's getting absurd. It's all football, all the time. Televisions trying to get as much football being televised as possible and it causes havoc with the fixture schedule. It's the same as the packed Christmas schedule, we make teams play more football at the time of year injuries will be more common. :dunce:

iadom 30-01-2017 15:52

Re: FA Cup 2016/2017

Liverpool now have to play just 16 games till the end of the season, Chelsea a maximum of 19, City, Arsenal and United will have to play nearer to 30.

To play Premier league games just two or three days after FA Cup games is forcing teams to massively rotate their squads, even those with bigger squads to start with.

In the 15 days before the EFL Cup Final United will play 3 games and the Saints none, just doesn't stack up.

Costa is a terrible. He should have been sent off for Diving, and feigning injury. And again goes down in the box after being tackled. And even the commentator apologised if viewers could lip read

Oliver should have been braver and sent him off.

Chelsea have become nasty challengers and the touchline with both Manager going at each other. Just goes to show how bad this football game as come too.

adzii_nufc 14-03-2017 00:16

Re: FA Cup 2016/2017

Rojo for three I reckon, obviously 5 would be keeping in line with recent events. He bottles it though, whether that matters, it's a stamp but there's no massive stamp on Hazard, Rojo bottles it, thinks better of it then flops.
