Re: Consumer 4G launching October 2016
A few days ago I changed my sim only package from £10pm to £8, the girl who I assume was in India asked if there was anything else she could help me with?
Right out of the blue I asked her when 4G was coming to VM customers, she didn't hesitate and said "October but I don't know what date". :) |
Re: Consumer 4G launching October 2016
"It is understood that Virgin Media is also planning to overhaul its service plans to include so-called zero rating of video streaming, in an attempt to emphasise the benefits of subscribing to a bundle of services.
Video that is zero-rated will not count towards users’ data allowances, encouraging customers to watch more programmes on the move." The paper also says the 4G service will launch towards the end of October. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/...p-on-4g-shift/ |
Re: Consumer 4G launching October 2016
All quiet on this. Anyone heard any more?

Re: Consumer 4G launching October 2016
They'll probably turn it on the day I finally get out of hospital lol
|
Re: Consumer 4G launching October 2016
I called CS about this as im due to renew our mobile deals and they said it was on but they didn't have any dates or even a time frame. I hope its soon I wouldn't want to have to change after all these years just to get 4G access
|
Re: Consumer 4G launching October 2016
I've just changed from Virgin Mobile to Giffgaff because of the 4g debacle.
Reception in Leeds is great on O2 which is GG's provider. |

Re: Consumer 4G launching October 2016
ok but neither do other providers but they don't seem to do much about it. I'm currently with iD mobile and although they don't allow it they have told me they cannot restrict it so in other words you can tether although it's not allowed

Re: Consumer 4G launching October 2016
Right. When I spoke to someone high up at VM not long ago they said 4G was coming in Q4 this year then press releases appeared. Do I take the plunge. It would totally be for the extra 2000 minutes and unlimited texts. I already get 4GB with iD mobile. Will VM remain with EE for 4G? iD are on Threes network. Are you with VM?
|
Re: Consumer 4G launching October 2016

I would wait a little to be frank until the launch as the plans may not be as good value. Yes VM will launch 4G with EE the same as now that is not changing. |
Re: Consumer 4G launching October 2016
Ah sorry I forgot to mention the guy I spoke to said all current plans would transfer over to 4G so plans wise they may tweak but nothing major I don't think?

It is fairly easy to hide tethering but I think the main thing is, they don't want to have the support costs of people wanting to setup or use tethering. Data wise, it shouldn't matter to them if someone uses their data quota up on their phone or tethered. I still have 4G unlimited data and unlimited tethering with Three mobile. An old contract which I have yet to be kicked off. They started kicking customers of this contract ages ago but never got around to changing mine. Brought a new phone outright instead of upgrading the one I got through them, not sure if that played a part. Still shocked that there are UK mobile customers without 4G in 2016! |
Re: Consumer 4G launching October 2016
Thanks. I do want to move for extra minutes but I really can't be arsed to be stuck on 3G for a while :(

I know that. I just don't now whether you can port a number over anytime say your on a contract for many months and decide you want another number on said contract can you request PAC and port over without problems or do all port overs need to be done within the first month of your new contract?

It is rather sad though that Virgin Mobile the first to offer quad play and also selling the most up to date phones on its website ,is at the moment only able to offer outdated technology IE 3G not 4G to its customers, even Giff Gaff and ID mobile offer 4G now. |
Re: Consumer 4G launching October 2016
iD mobile are decent for service. cs is a bit iffy but online cs seems good. I don't really want to leave but the amount of minutes allowance is dire :( and add-on pricing is crap.

This from the Virgin Media Community forum this morning.
"Looks like some of the help articles have been updated with 4G information. If you go to https://m.virginecare.com then you will see that this page now has a new look - especially when you access this page using your Virgin Mobile phone! Quite well done actually! The 4G help articles can be accessed if you click on the Help section at the bottom of the page and there you will see a whole section dedicated to 4G." ---------- Post added at 12:29 ---------- Previous post was at 12:06 ---------- This was posted over at the Digitalspy forums: "Take this as you will, but this appears to be the pricing for the 4G plans, which will launch next monday Quote: £6: 300 Mins, unlimited texts, 300MB data £9: 1500 Mins, unlimited texts, 1GB data £12: 2500 Mins, unlimited texts, 2GB data £15: 2500 Mins, unlimited texts, 4GB data £25: 5000 Mins, unlimited texts, 20GB data " |

Re: Consumer 4G launching October 2016
"Virgin Media is to test Europe’s net neutrality rules after launching 4G services in the UK that offer free access to Facebook’s messaging apps WhatsApp and Messenger.
Those services will be “zero rated", meaning that they can be used without eating into a customer’s data allowance. Although EU telecoms regulations do not forbid zero-rating, guidelines published by the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications — which will oversee the enforcement of the rules — have curtailed its usage. Networks are prohibited from providing free access to some apps if the data allowance is used up, for example." Re: Consumer 4G launching October 2016
All new Pay Monthly customers or existing customers taking out a new Pay Monthly phone deal will be 4G only.
All other existing Pay Monthly customers have options of getting 4G. |
Re: Consumer 4G launching October 2016
Called in to our local Virgin store in Hounslow today and opted for the £9 4G tarrrif and they gave me the new sim there and then. I was the first customer sign up for 4G.
|
Re: Consumer 4G launching October 2016
Was originally on 3G and signed into the Virgin website. Got a 4G sim card coming in the post in the next few days. Was paying £13 per month and now opted to pay just a couple of quid more. Looking forward to experiencing 4G on Virgin.
The wife is on EE 4G so it'll be interesting to compare the two as we both use an iPhone. |

I managed to fill a dorm in at work so I can get 4G. Will take a while for sim to arrive

As I said above, all 3G Pay Monthly customer can move to 4G.
It's not going to be automatic as the tariffs are different and you physically neeed a new SIM. |

Re: Consumer 4G launching October 2016
For non-freestyle contracts the rules are that you can move to a tariff that was available for your handset at the time you took the contract out.
To move to a newer 3G tariff or now a 4G tariff, the option available is that once you're out of a minimum term you can renew to a new deal and get the new tariff. If you're under a minimum term for a non-Freestyle contract you have to pay the remainder. |

Get 4G on your phone with a simple tariff change. It’s as easy as pie and i click on the big red button next to it that says "check out 4g tariffs" i get directed to the old 3g tariffs with no option to get 4g or even see the 4g tariffs ,am i missing something or is Virgin mobile broke again |
Re: Consumer 4G launching October 2016
Sim only deals very tempting as currently on EE - cheaper and 30 day contract.
However no tethering is annoying and EE provides up to 60 meg 4G and Europe data allowance. Need to have a think about it! |

Re: Consumer 4G launching October 2016
This afternoon I was on the phone for 90 minutes to Virgin Mobile, talking to 4 different people but I got what I wanted in the end.
It seems at 4pm this afternoon if you put http://store.virginmedia.com/virgin-...nthly-sim.html into your phone you were given cheaper prices than putting exactly the same address into your computer. The first three phone people would not accept this and in the end told me to ring 08001 831150. I was put through to a charming gentleman in Manila and while his computer loaded he quizzed me about UK weather. He immediately grasped the problem. I have 3 mobile accounts. My own is on a 6 month half price deal so I am not changing that at present as I would lose the discount. The other two I have changed to 2Gb 4G 30 day contracts, one for 10 pounds a month and the second for some inexplicable reason 9 pounds. As the price is 12 pounds when the website is loaded onto a computer I am happy, especially as in the conditions he had to read out it does include 0845 and 0870 numbers |

I'm still considering the offer from 3 mobile at the moment. They are doing a no frills 4GB of data and unlimited calls and text for £9pm. Thats what I'm paying Virgin for 1GB. The Virgin deal is on a rolling month basis so can be cancelled anytime. |
