0845 and 08457 numbers

I've just seen an interesting question posted on another forum - I'm got the new VIP+ tariff where 0800, 0845 and 0870 are included for £18 per month but some companies have numbers starting 08457. Does anyone know if that's just the same but the 7 being part of the rest of the number? It feels like it ought to be but for some reason you don't seem to find 08451, 08452, 08453 etc so I was wondering if it's a different rate.

As long as it starts 0845 then its covered.

I found this great website well I think it is really good for 0870 numbers it is SAYNOTO0870.COM

The site lists many well known companies, and their equivalent geographical numbers, therefore not paying premium rates like 5p or more per minute. It also lets you type in the number and gives you the cheaper one... :D

Russ has said in his post that calls to those numbers are actually included in in free mins.

I have a little piece of paper sent to me by VM over a year ago that says that I get £5 worth of FREE calls to 08 numbers each month as a freebie.

Is this general or is it only for me?

But 0844 and 0871 are not, so the site still helps

It's all about how they write down their numbers, nothing more :)

It does many more numbers than 0870, it may have numbers that is not included in the phone package Russ has ;) ... I have this included in my VM package and it does not cover all premium rate numbers so I use this website :D as my doctors have a 0844 number so I got their geographical number as I am not willing to pay for these numbers as I am fed up being ripped off ... so I try and show these numbers the :redcard: :)

In reply to weenie: We used to have 0844 No for doctors untill patient power took over!
We complained as a group to practise manager, took the better part of 18months but worth it in the end.

weenie 27-01-2014 19:48

Re: 0845 and 08457 numbers

Thanks raging bull, I think I will try that as I know many patients complain about the number, I give them there land line number lol the doctors are non to pleased...

I've just found out the offer includes 0808 numbers too.

My doctor also used 0844 but like you the practice manager had a lot of complaints they return to using 0118.

Re: 0845 and 08457 numbers

I think it is terrible that doctors can do this. The old and the unemployed must be put off phoning this number to access medical treatment due to the financial imposition of calling expensive premium rate 0844 numbers to reach their GP.

The NHS has been actively discouraging practices from using these numbers for some time, so there shouldn't be many left now.

Free calls to free numbers, great "offer" :D

In the meantime they're still free from real payphones too

Taf 28-01-2014 16:45

Re: 0845 and 08457 numbers

03 numbers are appearing a lot now

Quote:

Calls to 03 numbers cost no more than a national rate call to an 01 or 02 number and must count towards any inclusive minutes in the same way as 01 and 02 calls.

These rules apply to calls from any type of line including mobile, BT, other fixed line or payphone

Revenue sharing – where the dialled party can receive a share of what the consumer pays to make a call – is also not allowed on calls to 03 numbers.

And yet the NHS encouraged it in the first place  They are backtracking I think ... To late it should never have been allowed we are talking about the sick and vulnerable people "the old, young and sick" and yet who I see as the true sick ones are the people trying to make money out of the sick and needy all the doctors who used this number for their surgery should hang their heads in shame ...

Have fun finding one in the rain when you could use a mobile indoors.

Nor do I, but you really shouldn't have to pay for the convenience of accessing something that should be free for free, particularly when you can already use your inclusive minutes to call them for "free" anyway.

I have my hand a piece of paper (card actually) and have just been told by Virginmedia that they don't recognise this....

It dates back to Autumn 2011, I registered for it the day I received the offer.

Who should I talk to about this obvious U Turn, as I have now been billed for 0870 calls ( a single one in a month, so not in excess of their 250 minute limit).

I've seen one other post where a customer has lost these when upgrading to one of the new Collections, though I've no doubt there are others.

You are obviously very annoyed by this, judgeing by the state of the mailing you've been using it for target practice.:D

Taf 14-03-2014 13:38

Re: 0845 and 08457 numbers

I've not upgraded anything at all since I signed up for these "tickles"

The holes were not from darts but pins from a noticeboard where it was hidden from view for a couple of years under the missus' recipe sheets et al. ;)

I have the same "tickles" on my account as you, although my Talk 08 2 has less value now I am on phone XL.

All my "tickles" are still showing up on my latest bill as included in my package.

Thanks for sending in your email, I’m sorry to see you’ve been unexpectedly charged on your home phone.

I’ve taken a look and can see the call in question was for the amount of 78p. I’m happy, as a one time gesture of good will, to credit you one month’s worth of line rental for this oversight.

Unfortunately, our ‘tickles’ are no longer in circulation nor valid as a special offer.

We do have our Talk 08 £2 and Talk 08 £5 packages.

Talk 08 £2 will give you 250 minutes worth of calls to any 0845 / 0870 number. The Talk 08 £5 gives you 250 minutes worth of calls to any number beginning 08.

If you wish to take us up on these offers, give us a call on 150 and we’ll get them added to your account.
"For as long as you're a Virgin Media home phone user" is what I signed up for. So when did I stop being a VM home phone user?

Would love to hear them answer that question Taf ... If it is no longer valid surely it should have an date on it as when and how long you would be on the offer. I have a discount of 12 months...

As far as I understood it, when the tickles were added, Talk 08 £2 appeared on the bill

http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...-2/td-p/934363

So even if the credit for the Tickle stopped, the tariff itself should still be there.

If both have been removed, you'd need to established when and by whom. I'm not aware of any mass removal of the plans.

Taf 20-03-2014 12:53

Re: 0845 and 08457 numbers

I've sent them a scan of the original offer (odd that you can't add pics on the community forums?). Lets see what that makes them do.

Taf 21-03-2014 18:12

Re: 0845 and 08457 numbers

Quote:

Thanks for sending that image in. I am sorry that the Tickles have since expired, and the codes we would apply that are related to them, would be outright rejected by our system.

However, as a gesture of good will I’ve placed Talk 08 £2 on to your account.

I’ve also applied a manual rolling credit of £2 per month, to cover this service for the rest of your contract.

I’m unable to extend it beyond this period, so should you wish to remove the add-on then give us a call on 150 and we’ll arrange this.

Should you find you wish to keep it, you will see a £2 increase on your bill.

Hmmm.. still not "For as long as you're a Virgin Media home phone user"...

Time to take this higher....

raging bull 21-03-2014 21:34

Re: 0845 and 08457 numbers

Taf: I have the same tickle as you.
Shows as Talk 08 2, no indication of any cost?
(Usual thing of showing bundle cost only)

Taf 22-03-2014 10:47

Re: 0845 and 08457 numbers

I've had online billing for ages, so rarely looked at them (difficult to understand their bills anyway).

Their latest reply only talks about Tickle3 and not the other 2!

An email arrived this morning showing a contract change to include the tickle!!!

Just had a long call from a Mr. Crolla at VM:

If I forgo the 3 tickles (which were not that much of an advantage to me) I get a free installation next week of a 1Tb Tivo, the HD box moved, also for free, to the lad's bedroom, and an overall monthly saving of £7.75.

Plus they have left a refund of 1 month's landline cost on my account, and Talk 08 add-on remains free for a year !

Thankyou VM! :D
