Many years ago my brother borrowed my electric hedge trimmers, he had them for a month . . . at which time I found out that he was hiring them out to people in his street for £5 a time.

We still don't speak much :D

I sent a PM and I don't know how but I managed to delete the message after I sent it so my question is will that person get the message as I do hope so or will I need to write another one.

This happened when I was deleting my old messages like I say I never intended to delete the most recent sent one.

Us humans are so stubborn and proud sometimes especially when we get older as people still think they can do exactly what they did in their pomp and my Dad is no different weenie as l think he has now realised that he can still retain his independence but he will need a couple of aids to make things easier for him in his later years.

My operation never happened on Monday!

In was sick after waking in the morning and the anaesthetist did not want to risk doing the op incase something happened.

I have gastritis and am regularly sick, but they still wouldn't. New date will be within 2 weeks.

Good to hear. A lot of people forget that a repair is often possible and particularly with a high performance low profile tyre a much cheaper option.

Dead fish.

The house we've moved to has a pond, with fish. Fish have started dying as of last night.
I think it's excessive ammonia - got some stuff coming today to hopefully sort it - but now I'm checking periodically to make sure no more fish have died.

I don't want the fish, but don't really want them to die...

Sorry to hear this Mr LM maybe this link below could be of help to you. I noticed that it states weather change (a heat wave in the weather since warmer water cannot hold as much oxygen, a surge in temperature can have a detrimental effect on dissolved oxygen) anyway whatever it is I hope you get it sorted.

No, they're being fed - I've got a testing kit which has confirmed too much ammonia - I need to sort that, and then get the pond clean as well

'Tis not good when en route herons stop to feed either.
Hope you get it sorted MLM. Clean it out, let the water settle and put in some pond weed and pond snails. Go easy on the feeding. It could become a delightful hobby one day.
Perhaps a neighbour has a pond that can accept the survivors?

Scam callers if anyone gets a call from +260 97 3872146 my advice is to block them simply because they really are presistant little burgers and just keep calling sometimes only two rings then they hang up, it really is most annoying at 2am.

I usually have my phone off during the night but as eldest son is abroad atm I keep it on and will do until he returns home. Honestly my heart was in my mouth when my phone rang this morning at 02.11 as I naturally thought the worst.

Another thing that has really annoyed me today is the price of my son's graduation pictures yes I know you don't need to buy them but IMO the prices are extortionate but what can you do apart from don't buy which is not going to happen.

Stephen, I don't know if you know this but you can phone the DWP and ask them for a copy of your assessment report, I did that and don't know how it happened but I got my assessment report before my award letter but going by what was written in the report it did leave me hopeful of an award. The reason I requested this was mainly that I had heard horror stories about the PIP assessment and what they put in and leave out, I'm pleased to say that I needn't have worried and I hope that's the same outcome for you.

My wife receives a long list of repeat medication every 28 days.

Last month she received double of one item.

I queried this and was told by the receptionist that some meds can now be issued every 56 days, so she should now only request them every 56 days.

I told her that was pointless unless ALL her meds were issued very 56 days.

"It's the new system" she replied.

You can't beat stupid out of people, so I left....

l used to have all my meds issued every 56 days but the trouble is some of my meds are only issued for 28 days at a time so the next time l saw my GP we had discussions and we both felt all my meds should be issued on a 28 day basis instead of 56 days.

Idiots who cannot see a petrol tanker and close the M11 in both directions.

IMHO they need banning and having their licence and insurance declared invalid.

Knowing the idoits on the motorway they will be in a BMW and on the phone.

Then there are the poxy cops who allow traffic down the slip road to a blocked motorway rather that have a car there blocking ot off.

Luckily I had a warning when I got in the works car park. Even the my alternate route was a nightmare.

Strange how they score a lot of people just under the number needed for a claim.

Send a recorded delivery letter requesting reconsideration with your main points, which they'll say no again to, but just a process to go through before you wipe the floor with them at a Tribunal. Then swamp then with all your medical records which you can request from hospital for a small fee. A letter from your GP too. They hope you won't bother which is all the more reason to. The amount they spend on these appeals is more than if they just paid out in the first place. Good luck, but you probably won't need it.

Yeah the letter states that although I informed them I need help making meal and getting dressed and everything that he decided I can do it all myself although I need held making a meal for one and reading text. As well as aids or help in the shower but getting ready I can do.

Apparently I was able to walk unaided yet they noted I was unsteady on my feet at least twice at the assessment but can walk 200 mtrs unaided. This was even though I had someone from deaf blind Scotland escorting me!!

They really are a bunch of morons.

Utterly disgusting Stephen, just try and get a letter of support that can be either from your Gp, some GPs charge a small fee and some just don't entertain giving you one or you could get someone from deaf blind Scotland to write you one just try and get whoever writes you this letter to use the buzzwords that PIP/DWP look for:

Given the presenting evidence, it is medically reasonable. for Mr ...... to need the use of these aids in his daily life.

Mr ...... needs help with (list the help you need) which is understandable given both Mr ........ medical and physical condition/needs.

I fully support Mr......., in the appeal of his Personal Independence Payment claim given all the supporting medical evidence

It is my understanding that the use of these words is classed as buzzwords.

If you get on really well with your GP you could print off a letter and say that you were advised that this is the sort of thing that PIP is looking for then it would be up to your GP if he or she decides to use these buzzwords but being a professional I really don't see why they would not use this wording.

I wish you all the best in your appeal.

It goes with the job description for these non-medical 'professionals' I'm afraid. Sounds like you have a strong case, chin up when they eventually pay out it'll be back dated, so a nice lump sum.

Memo to self: Never do anything involving creating/deleting partitions while tired.

I did so yesterday. I needed a bootable USB for something I was doing, and I already had my laptop booted from a USB stick, as the software I was using to create the bootable USB stick would not run on the version of macOS installed on my laptop.

So, I booted up from the external USB, ran the software, selected the drive to make bootable and let the software run. Then, I realised it had deleted all the partitions on the laptop's internal SSD. I'd selected the internal SSD instead of the correct USB stick. Unfortunately, the only checking the software does is what drive you booted from, so it happily repartitioned my SSD with no question. Thanks to GDPR, I had deleted a lot of stuff from the laptop, and had no work related stuff on it. Any important personal stuff is backed up to iCloud.

Still annoying though. I've got OSX back up and running, but I need Windows 10 on there as well..

I'm getting really frustrated with my neighbour and there really is nothing I can do about it atm apparently.

We have an uninvited guest in our garden namely a rat and after contacting pest control they have stated that they would bet this problem is coming from our neighbours garden mainly due to her unkept trees within her garden, therefore, more than likely using her trees for shelter/nesting area anyway long story short bait stations safely in place in a locked box to protect other wildlife. It just really frustrates this woman's lack of consideration for neighbouring property.

My other neighbours needless to say a far from happy at what the council has said as they will only take further action if it happens again, then they will investigate the problem, while in the meantime I cannot fully enjoy our garden

I'm getting to the stage that I'm no longer enjoying my home due to this woman and if were not for the fact that she is elderly and I like all my other neighbours then I would be off:Sprint:

Hubby has also bought some rat traps again the ones in a box as we do not want to harm other wildlife.

I just feel that my home is so dirty yet I know it's not and this problem is certainly not my doing as I keep both my home and garden neat and tidy.

But in all seriousness, you need to seek medical advice (about the tick, all the other stuff is incurable...)

Good thing about the bait boxes is, depending on the poison used, is that the rat takes the poison home for the rest of the nest to enjoy. No surprise the old bag has rats though, they have an affinity for each other

D was dreading telling me but in the end he realised that there was no way he could keep this from me any longer.

Tbh I did think it was strange when he kept saying I'll get the rubbish or don't go in the garden I'll water the plants etc I just thought she must be up to her old tricks again never in my wildest dreams would I have thought the problem was a rat well not of the animal kind anyway.

Knowing my youngest he will want to keep it lol

I'm really down today the sun is out and I can't even enjoy my garden, tumble dryer is on and the kitchen looks a mess as there are clothes everywhere when they should be drying outside but I simply refuse to go out in the garden for any length of time.

I honestly feel like peeking over the fence and doing this :PP: but I suppose this rant will have to do.

Weenie, if you replace those seed trays with hanging feeders you could either buy or make undertrays to catch the spilt seed which is what Roland Rat and chums will have been after.

I made this one with a large pot saucer, the chains from and old hanging basket and the acme thread from the bottom of a mop pole which screws into the thread at the bottom of the feeder. It catches most of the spillage and the collared doves mop up the rest.

Nice one :tu: you just need to remember to drill some drain holes in the base of the saucer for when it rains. I used the wee drill bit on the Dremel. As long as it's emptied out every day it should be fine.

You can get bigger saucers than that in Wilkos which is probably a good idea if you get Goldfinches as they are the messiest eaters on Earth!

Built-in oven's blown its element. I was waiting for it to get to the right temperature to bake some bread and suddenly there was a loud fizzing noise. When I looked over it was glowing yellow at the back with blue flickering so I quickly turned it off before it could blow a fuse.

Good thing I hadn't actually put the bread in. I cooked it in my worktop small oven/grill unit instead. Tight squeeze and needed a foil cap to stop it burning on the exposed element but did OK.

Found out the oven manual where I've noted the spare part numbers and types of element that fit. Fortunately although the oven was marketed by B&Q with the kitchen as "Banquet Cuisine" underneath its "Homark" and it's a common part across a range of other brands. Have to get one ordered up, around £21 last time so not too bad.

First time the element went in my oven, I called someone in to replace it - and was charged around a 100 quid.. I'd been watching him, and it took 10 minutes.... and thought, that's not that hard, I can do that!
So next time I ordered the element myself and did it, in pretty much the same amount of time - though I did get stumped by the bolt on the fan needing to be turned the opposite way to usual to take it off...

As an electrical engineer you no doubt have far more confidence for this kind of stuff :)

The fitted kitchen is over 30 years old so it's job I have done a number of times as I use the oven a lot. Pretty straight forward screwdriver work so most people could tackle it. Just remember to electrically isolate the oven. Mine's easy as it plugs into a standard 13A socket behind the unit it's in.

Yeah, before we moved house, we'd had our oven for about 14 years, so after that first time I did it, I ended up doing it a few other times.

Going to make the most of my job tomorrow. Got a disciplinary meeting this week, for counting inaccurately last week. It's my first formal disciplinary for anything, but I have a horrible feeling it will be the sack for me this week.

Just keep doing a good job - it’s rare to be sacked on a first disciplinary for anything less than gross misconduct (theft, violence, etc.).

Maybe I'm being too sensitive as it's a year today since my Mum passed away.

I've been in tears all day and it's not helping that I'm so disappointed in the ordering of my son's graduation pictures, honestly it's been a total farce trying to select our paid photos of his graduation photos this is despite paying in full but the website says that I have two orders one being £152.95 in where the monies are still owed (we never ordered this package @ £152.95) and the 2nd is what I ordered and paid for, the graduation pack of £162.90 which states paid in full needless to say it is not letting select my pictures :( due to monies owed!

The main problem is graduates don't have a choice on the day, the company hired by the university has a monopoly on the offer of 'professional ' photos unless you hire your own.

I wish I had NEVER used this company and went with my gut instinct and hired my own professional photographer but I suppose we will see what Monday brings as my son has sent the company an email, I really hope things can get sorted out.

What should be an easy thing has turned out to be an utter nightmare tbh.

Incredibly frustrating but from what you've said it looks like it should all easily get sorted when the business week begins again. Sure it won't be long before you can enjoy the pictures of your son that you are so clearly proud of. My daughter has just finished her first year at Uni and like you she's my pride and joy. Enjoy them :tu:

After all the years I have been on the CF I have just done my 1st large posts of quotes and tbh I do not understand how anyone can be bothered with that as tbh I found it an irritating inconvenience in where the phrase going around in circles sprang to mind LOL

I'm not saying that there is anything up with doing this it's just not for me I'm afraid as I come on here for some time out :) so on that note I will not be doing that again.

Fridge has stopped working. I've popped a couple of ice packs from the freezer in for now. Fortunately there's nothing to really spoil in there.

I need to look at the compressor starter just in-case it's a simple fix.

Quite. It's done 35 years of faithful service so I'm not that upset. I can keep it cold with a cycle of ice packs from the freezer.

Hopefully it's the starter. The compressor was hot but not running. If it's fixable I'll fix it. :)

I remember my parents Frigidair with the same fault after 50 years service. Just the starter contact needed cleaning up and off it went. The "engineer" said the compressor had gone.

Pulled out the fridge this morning to take a look at the starter and thought I'll just power it to test and the compressor started up as normal.

I still suspect the starter and will keep an eye on the temperature. It may be intermittent as recently I've thought on the odd occasion that it didn't seem very cold inside.

Good news is that the starter is avalable as a spare if needed. Mind you it's a bit pricey so if push comes to shove I'll make a new one up.
