My Germany home & away football shirt turned up in time for the world cup and so did my Germany flag.

The printing of my surname on the back of the shirt was worth the extra money :D

Bloody immigrants. Coming over here and hanging their flags over their fireplaces. :D

I'm very patriotic but I find all this flags in the cars stuff a bit tacky. Not in homes though. Dunno why. Still if people are happy, good luck to them.

To be honest, we've only got one because family members sent it to us during Euro 2008. Hanging it over the fireplace just felt like the right amount of sillieness for getting in the mood for the world cup :)

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

I'm English I have learnt not to get in the mood for World Cups. I am marginally more excited now than last week.

I do have a St. George's flag somewhere. I'll probably put it up for match days.

With all the neighbours covering their cars and houses (literally in some cases) with England flags, I can see one from damn near anywhere in the house. Saves me the bother of buying my own!

(Not that I'm interested in football anyway)

People where I live have went way over the top with the flags which is interesting in it's own way, shame that when you mention the flag to them in passing they always seem to come out with the same statement:- "I'm not racist but..."

It is sad that people have to assume that a question about them flying the Flag of St George is somehow racist when it is actually their countries flag, if I was a football fan i would have no qualms about flying the flag at all.

THey should be proud of their flag and should not feel the need to make excuses.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

I Love football. I love the world cup.

In particular I love watching Really good Brazilians (the subjects football, in case MLM happens on this thread)

I am Scottish, I have an English surname (very Yorkshire).

My Grandfather, who I was called after, was born in Philadelphia, USA.

I spent 2 years of my life in Tasmania, Australia.(mainly playing football), where my eldest sis still lives

I love Spain and although not fluent have a passable ability to converse to Spaniards in their native tongue. My 8 year old daughter attends Spanish lessons on a weekly basis and is passionate about all things Spanish.

My wife is passionate about all things Italian ( especially waiters:()

After due consideration...I've decided who I'll support in this World Cup..

My decision is..... ABE :D

I was sitting in front of my lappy adding £10 to my mobile phone, I just finished and was reading the receipt, when both my home & mobile phones rang.

It was an automated message from my credit card, checking against fraud.

Now that was a quick response, less than 30 seconds.

Well done Barclaycard :clap::clap:

Well the last time I got such a call from Barclaycard they had already blocked me from paying off my CC that month and as a consequence I had to pay extra the next pigging month. And yes I was trying to pay it off earlier than I needed to so I wouldn't be caught out by the three days to clear rule.

Well done indeed but I far rather they had done it with some other payment..

I match both of you and raise you on the fact we've had a great BBQ, played in the pool with my boy, had a drink but not too much so Im at that stage where life is rosy and not yet got to the point about ranting about the worlds problems, Ive caught the sun and Im getting a nice natural tan AND my internet hasnt seemed to be playing up anymore :D

You dont mess about :D Quick move of threads there but with reason I suppose. My happy thought is alf and jo are happy :p:

My next happy thought is.......a morbid one but think on this...we are all still alive, have family around and to top it off will wake up tomorrow. I dont intend to sound odd but thats the way it is. Makes me cringe when I curse myself having a bad day at work when I think what other people must go through with being terminally ill etc. Puts things in to perspective I think :) I had a crap year once, mum and dad split up, grandparents died, I got heavily in to drink and the rest but somehow managed to keep a good job. Now Im as happy as can be and my little lad makes me smile everyday, the way I was he wouldnt have been born and my life would have been over, what a waste.

See you all tomorrow, with a bit of luck. Remember on your next shopping trip to tesco you could die like someone did in the morrisons near me, make the most of life, you only get one shot, sod the petty things I say ;)

I went to a customers house not long ago, last time I went was 12 months ago. I was there fixing the boiler admiring his photoshop certificates in his office when she came in all upset saying how he had died in the night a month before, she woke up to find him dead. Awful. Worst thing is I remember the guy and he was really really nice, I was upset all day and that was only a few weeks ago, since then I laugh when people are moaning about ordinary stuff.

Sorry to be so glum in a happy thread but my point is, be happy!

I went out & bought one of these WD media players, today

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digi...dp_ob_title_ce

I'm really pleased with it - talk about work straight out of the box - playback of x264 files on my HDMI 1080p monitor with sound courtesy of the optical link to my Logitech Z5500 speakers was faultless.

- then, even better, it passed the 'significant other' test plugged into the downstairs HD TV, she found it really easy to use.

I can now provide files on an USB stick for her to watch, rather than messing about converting them to DVD.

I missed this Cobby - I don't peep here much nowadays.
Sorry to hear your sad news - had a bit of that with my own dad. It can be a trying time for everyone.
'To visit easily' is a term I never thought I'd get to appreciate.
Slow but steady is the progress.

Those battery operated fly swatters from Poundland are great fun. Probably the maximum amount of fun you could extract from one British pound (as Tom Fun would probably say).

DON'T be tempted to put your finger between the grille to see what happens, it burns and it hurts.

They make a satisfying crack with a flash but bluebottles are only stunned.;)

Also the residual power even minutes after switching off still stings if you touch the elements.:erm:

After months of submitting my electric can opener to repeated GBH to get it to open any can, I've given up and bought a one touch can opener..

What's the odds that the old can opener will work perfectly from now on?

Mind I also took the precaution of buying a bog standard hand operated version...;)

reformatted a computer today for an old friend of mine from my butchery days. He paid me with 3 fresh chickens and a huge full leg of pork. I had to bone roll joint slice and dice it though but I got 3 big joints 6 meals in pork steaks and about 5 or 6 bags of diced pork. On top of that of course is the hock so all in all not a bag wage really lol

I've no doubt you would get many volunteers to help 'hold up' any of your gravity stressed bits.

In the meantime thanks for the update - glad you & yours are fine :)
