Correct.

The BBC can show only show two channels of Olympic coverage - one on BBC One/BBC Two and the other on the BBC Red Button channel.

With any luck there will be several pop-up broadcast channels live again for Eurosport subscribers. A deal with Polish cable operator Vectra has already been announced for 7 HD & 1 UHD broadcast channels during the Paris games.

Sky want to remove the SD Red Button streaming service from satellite. Not only do the Sky+ boxes depend on this, so does the V6 at the moment. As the V6 is still a supported platform it is the only way of maintaining the current service level for Sky Sports customers with these boxes.

In what way does the V6 need this service?

At the moment the Sky Sports background app links to the compressed SD satellite streams provided by Sky on V6 & TiVO. This is why the V6 does not get the additional tennis streams etc. These were also used by the Horizon boxes until Sky provided the new internet driven app recently.

The pop-up channel seems to be being reactivated too.

I wonder if they'll be a Discovery+ app this summer launching on Virgin especially with Olympics!

Looks like Rewind TV won't be coming to Virgin. It's due to start on Sky and they said other platforms to follow.

They've now stated that they will launch on Freesat & Freeview, no mention of Virgin.

I was told by Rewind TV on May 15th to watch this space when I ask them about coming to Virgin Media UK.

They probably couldn't reach a carriage agreement. Virgin charge channels that are FTA to be on their platform and the cost per potential viewer is the most expensive when compared to Sky, Freesat & Freeview.

It's annoying when those who don't pay for TV get extra channels and those who pay for TV don't, but it is what it is.

Yes, it will show archive programmes, some of which i'm interested in.

I have a smart TV already, are they going to be available on there? If so that would be useful. I didn't think they would be as they àrent going to be on Sky or Virgin Stream.

Now confirmed that the Sky Red Button is to be removed from Virgin, but that a limited Sky Sports+ service will launch for 360 & Stream customers only.

To be fair, that's not what the article says. In any case, a statement which leads with "Sky Sports+ will apparently be available on..." is hardly a confirmation.

Re: Virgin TV (2024)

Here is what my Sources has told me on Monday about Sky Sports + on Virgin Media UK

"Nothing official however it looks like Sky Sports + will be available on TV360, Stream and V6 boxes from August.

"Virgin Community forum staff have posted that the V6 red button is going to be updated for additional internet streams (such as the Tennis ones currently on the TV360).

"Virgin are set to upgrade V6 boxes so that they can also benefit from the increased red button functionality allowing VM to benefit from additional match selections, recap clips and more that Virgin Media introduced to TV360 and Stream boxes back in February."

This information was posted by me on May 13th on my X page.
