You have to take your hat of to Jurgens fantastic judgement of players. The best forward on the pitch and scorer of two goals is a player he rejected, the best central defender in the ground today had to sit out the game as he has also been rejected by Klopp and is on loan at Palace.

That is a pity as if they gave both clubs in the final a higher percentage of the tickets then you might have been able to get some with a bit of luck.

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

It'll be the same as last time, Newcastle being the the biggest spenders in England bar City or someone, just having an actual manager at the helm doing that is usually helpful. Not having Carr spend £15 million on some obscure French Winger every season (Cabella, Thauvin)

Jermaine Defoe is at Brighton or Newcastle next season, calling that now. I think Benitez will want a hefty signing too so expect a club record deal somewhere down the line for a striker more than likely.

Expected spend is going to be up there in the £70-£90 million range and will finally see us make a deficit season which can't be avoided because we simply haven't got those £35 million players to reduce the net spend this time round given the relegation.

Summary, gotta spend and we have no way of avoiding making a decent loss for the first year.

Forget about that though. The top four race is just mind blowing.

United play City, Arsenal play United right after that. Liverpool can be overtaken with ease should United pass both tests. However, their scheduling is ludicrous.

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

It'll all just fizzle out or Lee Charnley gets sacked. Win/Win.

This is because we sold that guy Sissoko to Spurs and told them he was a footballer. Seriously however, it appears to be a personal investigation into certain employees and not directly the clubs. Appears Charnley at Newcastle has been fiddling income and national insurance. The French link has something to do with the way he's been handling income for image rights. Not sure what's up with West Ham but the above is the news here at the moment. Wouldn't be surprised to see other clubs pop up soon but I'm sure West Ham and others are just employee issues and not strictly club issues.

This has nothing to do with transfers of any club or club finances.

adzii_nufc 26-04-2017 17:18

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

Seems to be confirmation that employees of OM, Newcastle United and West Ham have been hiding money in certain aspects of the deal such as image rights, i.e botching the amount paid and received at both ends. Allegedly of course.

Again though the transfers appear to be legitimate, it's personal gains that are being looked at. Florian Thauvin, Remy Cabella and Dmitri Payet are just a few that have left both Newcastle and West Ham recently.

Remains to be seen if Lee Charnley is separate from the OM issue. Only official statement is Charnley is being investigated for income tax and national insurance fraud.

In other news relating to the summer then, Newcastle set to spend £100 million over the course.

Arsenal win their must win and have the edge over United in fairness despite the 3 point gap. United's run in is horrific.

Heh, anyway, seems certain now Lee Charnley was involved in lowering player wages in return for higher image rights, thus dodging tax deliberately for incoming players. So again, not really the transfers themselves but players that had signed dodgy deals. Not certain of West Ham or OM's involvement but both seem minimal to it and rather just linked via sets of Newcastle players. Demba Ba is one of those that appears to have taken such a deal from Charnley.

Payet was someone I mentioned as a link between OM and West Ham, it however appears that it was speculation and the only club involved is Newcastle, West Ham were merely involved for documents, presumably those of Demba Ba pre-Newcastle move. There's then countless links between Newcastle and OM.

So this all appears to fall solely on Lee Charnley at Newcastle. As it's a HMRC issue, no punishment will fall to the club itself, Charnley could be in trouble of course and likely will be, the club itself could face a mediocre fine around £5 million, which is a Marveaux these days.... So nothing drastic.

Another twist however is speculation that HMRC have thus far botched the entire thing and there's growing pressure already for them to hurry up and produce something significant. The Guardian pointed out the heavy handed arrest and later being released without charge showing the whole case actually rests on finding something, not something they already had.

As for Charnley himself, well he and Mike Ashley discussed his future and the best way to put it was, they don't care about the HMRC investigation. Charnley will remain in charge and they're just going about their business. That would again suggest HMRC have made a dogs arse of it.

Personally I think they probably have being abusing the system via image rights. That's really as far as I could go, I don't understand the legality of it or law surrounding it so it'd be pointless saying more.

It wasn't even half convincing either, Rashford's flopped before the keeper even got there. Never seen Kane's, waiting for replay. Edit: Just seen it, need to do away with this minimal contact bollocks, there can be contact, if it isn't enough to send you flying like that then you've still dived. He's even stuck his leg in to convince himself.

Poor York City, demoted 2 years in a row and now in the 6th tier of football (National League North). They're in good company, Halifax and Stockport have also fallen to this level, mostly because of money issues. Its sad, but these teams still have their loyal support, so when your local two bit team hosts them (usual attendance a few hundred), there is a sudden influx of a few thousand ! Benitez and Mike Ashley met to discuss the future of Newcastle United and Benitez. Everything went well, both parties are happy and it's thought they're ready to hit the transfer market with Ashley saying he wants to the club to hit the ground running, rather than hang on for a season.

I can't fathom what money we're talking about to hit the ground running but it's already been suggested there's going to be a minimum of £100m available to throw about, whether that's set to increase is unknown. Edit: Apparently they were talking about spending to the tune of £150 million

What is clear is Newcastle are a different club than they were 2 years ago, in which no manager actually had control over anything, money was spent where Mr Director and Mr Chief scout wanted it to go and it was spent on the 2nd-3rd choice targets over the main one.

So I must have traveled to an alternative universe where Mike Ashley is the best thing for Newcastle besides an oil rich playboy.

Whilst every Newcastle fan is still sitting in the clouds, I may just go stick a bet on Newcastle qualifying for a European spot next year. Where's Robbie Savage at? Anyone fancy a new car?

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

Unless I'm wrong, discounting the Champions League trophy in which United have won more recently and even more recent was Chelsea (being the last English winners)

Liverpool would then be the expert on the wooden spoon trophies. Strangely enough they're not.

Since 2010, United have won 3 wooden spoons and 2 golden spoons.
Since 2010 Liverpool have won 1 wooden spoon.
Since 1992 (EPL Era) Liverpool have won 0 golden spoons.
Since 1992 United have won 13 golden spoons

Random facts and nonsense:

Leicester City have one more golden spoon than Liverpool
League one's Blackburn Rovers have a golden spoon.
Newcastle United have 0 wooden spoons and 0 golden spoons. FACT - Rafa Benitez

What I can take from this expert and in depth Analysis is I'd sure as hell back United to win another title and major trophy long before Brendan Klopp does. Tottenham Hotspur being the next new addition to the club of winners.

The whole post is what Reddit would term as a 'crappost' replacing crap with something ending in T. It's all sarcasm and for nothing other than comedy relief.

He's still Brendan Klopp though. :D

The comeback is certainly underway but an away goal will flatten them here. Still a hard task this. One away goal will see them needing to take the score to 5-1.

Arsenal also playing, anything but a win again would surely seal their CL fate.

Isco scores, brutal. 3 goals needed again for Atletico as they start all over.

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

Rafa Benitez plans 10 year Newcastle stay.

Conspiracy here: I get a feeling Mike Ashley is using every inch of this to finally sell the club. Benitez, big money etc. He's going to throw down a massive set of dice, spend big and get Newcastle where they need to be in order to recoup the money he's spent overall. Obviously that's not a bad thing because it's the best possible advert you could deliver.

On the other hand, Ashley is supposedly delighted at the way things are unfolding and hopes to finally restore the ties he had with fans at both home and away games and become the supporter style owner he was first known for... In geordie terms, the fat guy that downed the pint on TV at the Emirates. Then lied and said it contained no Alcohol: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/e...ne/7592350.stm

We're also set to confirm our sponsor, which is supposedly another club record deal, supposedly a Chinese Betting firm offered big money on the basis Newcastle were promoted. It comes after Newcastle themselves failed to re-acquire Brown Ale as a sponsor in a move to please fans. There is no deal for stadium rights and they weren't offered any as Mike Ashley claims to have learned from his mistakes and no such deal will be in place again.

Not trying to be super critical but that was one of the worst United performances I've ever seen given the team they played. :erm:

A bottom half Spanish team out-possessed United for an entire game at Old Trafford. What? More shots too. Absolute madness. They can not play like that against Ajax.

A typical United home performance this season, to give Celta Vigo their due they are not that bad a side. Their league position is in no small way due to them prioritising both the Europa League and the Spanish Cup. They knocked Real Madrid out of the Spanish Cup and earlier in the season beat Barca 4-3 at Camp Nou. They have been resting six or seven first choice players for months now, hence the lowly league position.

All in all a very sloppy display from United I will agree. :(

I agree with henning berg, 10 years ago this season would've been a disaster for Utd, the quality of trophies being won or competed for is their new level

In fairness to Mourinho (who I still say is a better choice than Monkey Moyes and Louis Van Help) he's doing his best with a squad that was neither his choice or could quickly adjust to his style and tactics.

I don't care if this isn't what United fans would have said 10 years ago, I say *everything* is pinned on the Europa final. Word is many of JM's targets during the summer and January would otherwise seriously consider signing for United but were put off by the possibility no CL action for at least another season.

We won't qualify through the league so this is our only hope. If United win will I be happy? Absolutely so but not due to them getting the trophy - I'll be stoked that JM will then have the prospect of CL football to tempt more of the world class players we need and deserve.

Good to see you Russ, denphone said you were the new BB King but I told him not to be so mean and you get what you deserve generally, interestingly though other than this season and last the only thing winning this competition would get you was entry to the super cup

I think that Ref Oliver was wearing Blue tonight.

Then we had the idiot Chelsea Fans run on the pitch to waste time - that's why we had the extra five minutes.

But there again Chelsea won the title in there normal fashion by cheating.

I have seen better acting for diver at the nearest swimming pool.

Next season it will be us

I am not a sore loser.
But Chelsea have only won the title through diving and cheating. Each time Chelsea players went anywhere near the box they would go down.
And Hazard going down after the slightest touch. My god Oscar winning cheating. Referees this season have been that poor its beyond a joke.

No mention noting Spurs have been one of the most prominent teams in regards to diving this season, alongside a manager that literally used 'English players do it' as a response to Alli cheating...

Pot and kettle eh. How's that lad doing we sold to you lot for £30 million? Has he worked out what football is yet?

Harry Kane and Alli seem to have a shocker trying to stay on their feet. I doubt you'd be calling those two out had spurs won. You're not a sore loser? but you're coming off as exactly that.

Newcastle unveil £24 million deal with Fun88 (Chinese Sponsor) as the Chinese continue their inroads into the Premier League.

Also note Newcastle have triggered the £6.2 million clause for Christian Atsu. Signs of brilliance in him at times but not overly different from a Ben Arfa in truth. Quality when hes at top gear but no real consistency over an entire season.
