why do i get billed 18.00gbp every month for the above ???

yep , this gives you your telephone linerental @ £9.50 and ure base digital pack @ £8.50

I was told by NTL that the phone rental would be free because i've got the family pack & 600k broadband.

The base pack costs £18 whether you have the phone or not, so it is free like they say. But, if you just have the phone and no tv its £9.50

I think the way ntl work it out is that the £18:00 is for the TV connection & base pack, with the phone line rental bundled in as a freebee. Certainly that's the way it shows up on my bill.

If you were to say "I don't want the phone", I dont think ntl would reduce the TV charges.
