You are better off running an ethernet cable upstairs rather than moving the modem.

If you go for wireless then buy a router and cards that are the same make. This makes setting everything up a lot easier.......

I like the Belkin wireless gear myself but a lot of members on here will use dlink !!!!

Try and buy 54g based equiptment as its faster than the older 11mb system.

£50 i believe , does it have to move , or will it just be more convenient if you move it ????????? :)

It would be better if it moves as my mum don't want loads of wires around the house.

Do you have space by the modem to put a router ?

I think it goes over our garage and round the back of the house and is drilled into the wall.

I have enough space for a router by the modem. Do you think wireless would be less than calling ntl out.

why not pop down to maplin and get the correct wire and the little things.

NB - Touching the NTL coax breaks the AUP - You could affect the network for people near you.

Make sure you know what you are doing and meter out the f connectors before you connect the cable.

A decent router and card could be purchased for around £100.00

This may be more expensive at first but if they then wanted to move the cable again they would be in for another £50.00

So in the long term its cheaper....And more flexible !

I found this on amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005ARK3/qid=1077388485/sr=1-45/ref=sr_1_2_45/026-5909477-7122002

Would I be able to use it with the card (link below) from dabs.

http://www.dabs.com/uk/channels/hardware/networking/productView.htm?quicklinx=2SPF

I looked at the linksys cards and they are quite expensive

Thanks
Craig
