(provided the mods let this post stand)

Anyone from ntl able to tell me who operates this number?

0871 550 6800

And please don't dial it to find out what it's for, it's a number being promoted by a spammer.

All leads treated in the strictest of confidence. ;)

Check what you've enabled to get through the firewall.

Also run something like adaware.

Basically they run a random search of available ip's. When they find an ip they then run a program that checks for open ports. Once one is found they use that to make the pop appear. Nott 100% sure how it works, but if you run a search in google for port scanning software you can download it you pc and check what ports you have open.

You need a Firewall matey, Zone Alarm do one for free:) Or you can buy one such as Norton Firewall.

Assuming you are on XP:

Go to "Control Panel" then select "Performance and Maintenance"
from there go to "Administrative Tools" select "Services". Look down the list for "Messenger" right click on it and select Properties.

You can safely disable and stop this service as it's the built-in messenger for local networks built into XP and set to on as default.

This will stop all future use of the service by spammers.

If its Messenger also make sure that in your My Allow List, the 'All Others' is moved to your blocked list. This will mean only people on your allow list will be able to send you a message and if anyone else wants to send you a message they will have to wait for you to add them to your list. I was getting loads of spam messages until i did this.:)

Thank you very much! Even the XP book doesn't show that one :wavey: :smokin:

Ok, a lookup of the number leads to 087chat.com

a lookup of the web address leads to this.

Name: host5.sun-net.com
IP Address: 65.203.151.5
Location: Las Vegas (36.172N, 115.122W)
Network: Unknown

Registrant:
Sun Net, Inc
PO Box 93981

PO Box 93981
Las Vegas, NV 89193
United States
Phone: 541-543-5880, Fax: 702-362-1104

however this would appear to be the webhost's name rather than the owner of 087chat.com

a lookup of the domain owner gets this

Domain Name: 087CHAT.COM
Registrar: INNERWISE, INC. D/B/A ITSYOURDOMAIN.COM

a further lookup got me this
