Now that Burns Night is out the way and the last haggis has been cleared off the shelves, I see that the Hot Cross Buns have started arriving in the supermarkets about 2 months too early, as is the custom nowadays. I wouldn't mind if the revolting things had any use other than to serve as substitute door stops. When I was a young lad, they stayed out of the shops until some time around Holy Week.
