I've just got interested in genealogy and into tracing my family tree. It is surprisingly difficult to do this as there doesn't appear to be any one single agency that has a complete set of UK records for births, deaths & marriages.
As I pondered on how to do it, it crossed my mind that having a site with an online family tree would allow anyone with internet access to put in information about the parts with which they were familiar. In this way a picture could be built up of the complete family tree.
The main danger I can see is the entering of incorrect data, either accidentally or deliberately. It would therefore be useful if the site had software links to other genealogy record sites so that information input could be verified with known information before being accepted.
As a concept what do other forum members think?
