I use McAfee, it's only scr*wed me up once :D
I think it's down to personal choice really. As long as you have one that gets updated on a regular basis you should be all right. Mcafee gets updates every 2-7 days but my 'freedom software' av (that I got free with my netgear router) only gets updates every 2 weeks or so.

Personally i use AVG at home mainly because it's free .. not because it's the best.

I've used and abused all the major ones.. and would recommend Norton or Sophos.

I would imagine that running a combination would fail spectacularly. I can think of several technical reasons why they would not work together but I won't bore you with them..
Basically, I very much doubt that they would install with another anti-virus program resident.. try it if you are the masochistic type (like me ;) )

Always use McAfee here and never had a problem yet.(touch wood)

Pays not to mix and match with AV programs so always best to find one you get on with and stick with it.

Norton 2004 seems to still have a few issues for a few people but uninstall/reinstall seems to sort the teething probs a few have had.

I use ca software. Etrust Ez antivirus (junior version of sophos) Its cracking. It was only about £18.00 to buy and only £5.00 a year to renew.

Only ever run one antivirus package as 2 will conflict and may actualy weaken your security, besides this you dont want to use more resorces than you have to !!

I use eset's NOD32.It's been excellent so far.

Why not try a demo version of each AV one at a time and see how you get on.It's what I did.

Steer clear of Norton ... Mcafee is quite reliable in my experience, but Norton causes nothing but problems ...

And with my job, my experience is quite large tbh, but its just my opinion obviously

My choice is a free one called Antivir from www.free-av.com and has free updates as well.

It has spotted posible viruses in software cd's

I use Norton AV but I use version 2002 which you can still get updates for. The reason for this is that every time I upgrade to the next version of NAV its gets slower and slower. And before you start tapping out your replies I know I can get up to date AV software from someone else thats less bloated, but why do that when I'm perfectly happy with what I've got. I any case I think the world is a better place for computer viruses, what else is going to encourage people to back up regularly and write better software?

EDIT: my 100th post :D

There's nothing wrong with Norton. I use Norton Anti-Virus 2003 and 2002 firewall. I have had no trouble with them at all. In fact they've picked out some viruses from emails and deleted them. And also trojans. I always have auto update on as well. And scan all files about every 2 days. :)

I use Norton (because I also use Norton firewall and they seem to work better together than with other components), but I've found McAfee is faster and less resource hungry if using just their AV.

I had major problems with AVG on two different systems when I tried it out and I will not touch it again.

As for using more than one, I would advise against it. It would mean two apps both looking for and trying to scan files as they are loaded by a third app.....nasty! And pointless.

Oops! :dozey: Getting my AVG and AVP mixed up. Sorry! It was AVP which gave me problems.

I also use AVG because it is free & updates automatically etc.

The problem with the pay for ones is that they go out of date so quickly & you have to pay again... something that I dont like doing lol.
