Hi all, I have the M$ Sidewinder Gamepad USB version 1.0 located HERE (http://shop.game.net/ViewProduct.aspx?cat=10414&mid=298170)
and was wondering wheather it is suitable for the PC version of FIFA 2004.

Cheers

Firstly I haven't played FIFA on the PC, so this is quite possibly ********, but...

I'd imagine that there is a configuration screen whereby you can assign buttons on the controller to all the ingame function in the way you want them. That controller seems to have fewer buttons than a standard console pad, which could be a problem, as that's what the game will have been designed around.

But I'd say a bigger problem than that would be the lack of analogue sticks: all the current consoles, and most new PC pads have two, and again, games are designed around this.

So the short answer is no, I don't think that pad would be much good for FIFA 2004.

If you already have a PS (1 or 2) or XBox controller, then it might be cheaper to buy a USB adaptor to connect them to the PC: these are available for less than a tenner, and are reported to work well :).

It'll work fine.

Fine, contradict me then :P

Is a simple d-pad and six buttons going to be good enough to play (and enjoy) a game designed around two analogue sticks and eight or more buttons?

Yes, works fine for me with FIFA 2004 (and PES 3), I hate using the analog sticks on my gamepad and generally use the direction pad for any games that support it.

I don't personally own one I use a saitek rumble force but I have used one playing FIFA 2004 on more than once occasion and it's just fine.

Thanks. I was expecting worse though and by that i mean if it wasn't suitable my parents have wasted £15 on a joypad.

Even if you did own a joypad that you couldn't map in the controls, there's a free program called something like joy to key or pad to key or something similar that allows you to map key's to any button/direction on the gamepad.

Read the manual for the game ... you need to take a bit of initiative yourself.
