A followup to my previous thread, what do you drive these days? Name all of your cars. If you don't own any and live with your folks, name what they have.

I don't own a car, but my folks have:

Oldsmobile Silhouette 2001 - 3.6L V6 engine (my dad's)
http://fp.images.autos.msn.com/merismus/gallery/c441478a.jpg and http://fp.images.autos.msn.com/merismus/gallery/c441480a.jpg

Toyota Echo 2001 - 1.6L V4 engine (my mom's)
http://fp.images.autos.msn.com/merismus/gallery/c444918a.jpg and
http://fp.images.autos.msn.com/merismus/gallery/c444920a.jpg

Dodge Neon 1996 - 2.0L V4 engine (just a junky third car for my brother and I)

We don't get Vauxhill or Pegeuot here. And none of our cars are diesel. They use that in CARS?

Vauxall are general motors so you get siblings of our cars im sure.
As for diesel yes its widely used over here the current generation of common rail diesel turbo's are very fuel effiecent and just as fast if not faster than there petrol counterparts.

a vw lupo 1.2 diesel will do over 70mpg ! compared to the 40 somthing of the 1.2 petrol. thats impressive. though its a slouchy 1.2

Bmw on the otherhand have some very nice units the 2l diesel kicks out 150bhp which is more than the 143bhp the 2l petrol produces and more torque than the petrol equiv(330nm for the d, 200 for the petrol). and is just as quick.
there 3l unit is upto 218bhp and 500nm of torque (thats a lot). compared to 231bhp and 300nm of the petrol.
also note the 4.5lv8 does 333bhp and 450nm

In the new 5 series 0-60 time the diesel is within 1/10th of a second of the 3l petrol, as for 50-75mph its 0.4 of a second faster than the 4.5l v8, and nearly 2 seconds faster than the 3l petrol !
it does upto 51.4mpg to boot as well. a top speed of 152mph also is no slouch.
Bmw only make one engine with more torque than the 3l diesel, and thats the 6l v12 in the 7 series ! (twice the capacity and twice the number of cylinders).

I've driven the detuned version in the 330d and its a screamer its really swift and has almost instant go. (slight turbo lag but its hardly noticable). shame its over £27k :-(

Going back to the topic what car do i drive ? none as i cant afford the insurance on anything just yet at least not anything im willing to get behind the wheel of.

Well, personally I wouldn't consider buying anything smaller than 2.5L. You get 1.3 in the Ka? WTF is a Ka anyways? We don't even get that. lol. 1.3? My bike will have a bigger engine! I want a 1.6L Harley. :D

My friend's family (whose cars I drive occasionally) has a Corvette (C5) 5.7L V8, and a Dodge RAM truck (8L V8).

He learnt to drive on this car. He even went to the tests in this car. (It is the older brother of the guy getting the 1962 Cadillac.)

was thinking of getting one of these as my first car as the engine is so small it brings down your insurance quite a bit and since my insurance will probably cost more monthly than my scooter itself costs then every penny saved is important.

We get stung allot of $$$ for unleaded petrol (and high insurance rates) here in the UK thats the reason for smaller cc cars.

[Note to self[/I]
i have to remember to fill the tank b4 Xmas/new year as the 24hr petrol stations aint 24hrs here over the festive season.

Well, here's a site with some pics of an almost identical car to mine - a renault clio sport 172 - Mines an import, brand new on an 04 plate - I can't wait till I get it to 625 miles on the clock - the manual says i have to keep it to 3000-3500 revs for the first 625 miles, then I can open it up - Its nigh on impossible to stick to this though - it just wants to go and go and go....

You're not wrong mate - 172 horses will go like the clappers, once i reach the elusive 625 miles or so (currently up to about 170 miles on the clock - I only got it on friday morning)

The only problem is, its my first black car - it looked scruffy yesterday morning, and that was only after 1 day - I'm gonna have to clean this baby every week - the last car I had (an old 1.4 fiesta, but served me well for the 4 years I had it) was a light blue, and I never washed it once in the last 2 years I had it !!!

The quoted 0-60 (or is it 62 nowadays ?) is 7.1, although the Cup versions does it in a mind boggling 6.8 (the cup version is lighter than the normal 172)

I only go to carwashes in the winter. You can't even hose your car down at home because the water to the outside is shut off. And if you do, the water will freeze on contact with the car. 20 below freezes a lot of things.

Other than that, I like washing my car. :D With my hands, mind you... None of this modern crap.

You can get a really good hand wash and leather done on your car down near Sainsburys in Farlington for about £6.00 Xac. :)

Ah but do they have the same attractive woman getting into a lather? :naughty:

Took my old (well 2 years old, and no longer mine) laguna through there. They were a bit worried about my wingmirror as it's been smashed off and just has a replacment on on it, but it folds in against the car so it was fine.
The strips don't half make a loud noise as they thump and bash your car tho!

Just to keep this on topic, I still have the Fiesta 1.6 Ghia mentioned earlier. Lovely car. Not particularly powerful, but being quite small, is extremely nippy.

Ever so slightly OT, but it is about new cars..

I saw an advert on TV last night for FIAT cars, they are using "I am a passenger" by Iggy Pop as background music.

Is it my imagination or was this music not used a couple of years back by another car firm, possibly TOYOTA for the Avensis.

Yep iadom I remember the ad. It was a guy sitting in the passenger seat of the Toyota driving along but with no driver.

I drive a Saxo VTS, not the crappy VTR, but the 16valve.

0-60 in 7 seconds :-p, will give the ST170 a run for its money, upto around 80-90.

no pic, but its green, and slightly modded.
