What is the best distance I can get with wireless networking?

Assuming I have Line Of Sight with the destination. And a directional antenna.

Cheers in advance (i'm hoping to get a signal to where i work - which i can see out of my bedroom window - about 2km tho)

If your extrammly lucky and you have a direction areal etc. You may be able to get a signal.
But i doubt the speed would be that good. Ill have a look into this. Would be useful to know.

There is a spreadsheet for calculating WiFi range here:
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/pd/witc/ao340ap/prodlit/obrc_in.xls

and a write-up of an experiment over 14km here:
http://www.frars.org.uk/cgi-bin/render.pl?pageid=1066

2km with proper line of site (see diagram in spreadsheet) should be possible with no probs.

Lots of bits and pieces available here:

Not too worried about speed - it's mainly for messenger to be honest. I've got my laptop up there just want to have more to do while i'm there :) I think I may have to invest in some kit in january.
