Hello,

New forums in general so please be gentle!

I've been using telewest cable for a couple of years now and bar the odd time I've had to reset the webstar modem, been pretty happy with it. Have added a wireless router into the mix about a year ago and that's fine.

However, in the last month or so I keep seeming to lose my connection every few hours, I reset the said modem and all is okay again. I thought it may be my wireless router but have not been using that for a week or so now to eliminate that option but the direct internet connecton keeps dropping.

Could it be a firmware issue? Maybe my network card?

Are there any tools on the net I can use?

Help!

Regards,

David.

it goes without saying you've checked for spyware right? if thats ok, i suggest you ring technical support for a read out on your freq/power/snr levels...

I tried this and, touch wood, so far so good, connection has been 100% and pretty speedy in fact for the last few days.

Thanks a lot of your input, appreciated.

Been having the same problems for the last 3 nights in a row. Been trying to play online poker with real money have lost £11 because of it. 1st night spent 20 mins then 16 mins on phone calls. Last night spent 27 mins on the phone and tonight at long last only 10 min. But an enginer (spelling) will be coming out on Wednesday to check my modem and maybe replace it.

Customer service from them is very lacking. On the 1st night I was told that it was due to reduced packets of data. I ask them to email me when fixed and as told that they can not do that. I'll have to ring customer services. I asked to speak to a supervisor and got cut off. So when I rang back I was told no superviser was working and toi ring customer services.

Customer services say that they can not send an email and all complaits must be in writing. What a joke.

Just hope it gets fixed!!!!

Tried to get onto 192.168.100.1/gscan.html but pc having none of it. File not found!

I can get onto 192.168.100.1 fine but what then?/

Please help

Using Zone Alarm, AVG Antivirus, if that helps at all. PC is spyware and virus free I hope. Scanned yesterday.

Quick update, engineer came out and says problem was cause by old modem. So he has put in a brand new Motorola SB5100 oooooooooo. Old one was a Grey 4200 or 4800 can't remember and he took it with him.

Seems ok so far. Will post again if problem comes back.

As an added bonus he also left me a New network cable and USB cable. Nice man.

Well well what a surprise, went onling tonight and within 10 mins of booking a flight for the father in law my brand new modem decided to reboot itself. So another call to the techies thats 4 in 7 days. Can't see any reason why your having connection problems apart from the fact that a lot of people from the Bristol/Bath area are on. You have gone on at peak time and fighting for bandwidth. The only answer is for Telewest to invest millions in updating the system.

Cheers Telewest. News that I didn't want to hear. A letter will be heading there way.
